After 21 years with the same employer I was part of a reduction in force due to the economy. So, I've joined the ranks of the unemployed. I've got good skills and talents so hope I won't be in this position long, but with the economy in the state it's in......
On the plus side, I get to sleep in for a few days (maybe a week?) and catch up with friends I've been to busy "working" to get together with.
At any rate, good thoughts would be most appreciated!
Sue

Sorry for your situation Sue. It's terrible that 20 years with a company doesn't mean much anymore.
I'm sure you'll make the best of the free time you have now and, hopefully, the economy will improve soon. Tom.

Ditto what Lynn said. Tough times call for a little pampering--netflix a good movie, take a walk at times you previously couldn't--anything to get the endorphins up and the worry down.

At times we do not understand why something "not so good" happens to us and then in the end it always works out for the best.
This may be a way for you to get a bit of R&R and then a better opportunity will be just around the corner! :)

Sorry to hear this, Sue. Having given 21 years to a company and then find yourself falling victim to a very faltering economy and through no fault of your own, is something difficult to digest.
Having walked a mile in your shoes, I can honestly say that there is something great and far better on the horizon for you. Your extensive experience and superior skills and talents will become a great asset to someone in the very near future. For everything, there is a reason and purpose. The reason may not be clear now, but will eventually show itself...and, it will all be for the better.
In the interim, stay strong and positive and indulge yourself in whatever gives you joy.
A big hug is being sent your way!

VERY BEST WISHES coming your way! You've always been a bright spot on LCT! My younger son spent several months in a post-grad work/study program In St. Joseph, MO, which "opened his eyes in SO many ways!" Loved the people there and his experience there led to a summer internship in NZ!
So, although we've never met, I've felt a "kinship" with ST. JOE!

Thanks for the support and positive thoughts. I'm actually thinking about a few days at a spa I like to decompress and think about what I want to do. It's a very strange feeling after all the time invested in my former job. It's weird not having a plan.

Sue, You need time to relax and get a new plan. Get over the shock of your situation and decompress. The spa sounds like a fun way to shake off all these strange feelings and begin getting a plan together. Best of luck to you on this new life!

Sue, so sorry about your downsizing. I can relate since I was laid off just over a year ago. I thought then that I could take a few months off, but then the economic collapse came, and I'm still looking, along with a huge number of other very talented IT sector workers.
Definitely have some downtime--I took the summer off and spent most of it at the cottage. I started going for long walks, and for the first time in years, cooking from scratch.
And be confident that it will work out well in the end!

So sorry that you're going through this, Sue. Like others have said, take time to recharge and renew. Be ready for doors to open, because they will, just might be a direction that you haven't anticipated. I'll be sending good vibes your way.
