Well I'm excited as all heck that it's almost Memorial Day weekend!!! I look foward to this time of year as it means the official start of summer. It sounds like its going to be a decent weekend as well, supposed to hit in the upper 70's. Finally a nice Memorial Day weekend, usually they are rather cool. We are entertaining all three days.
What is everyone else doing for the holiday weekend???
What are you grilling???

Tom and I are off to Jamaica on Saturday for the week staying at Jamaica Inn with some friends of ours from Chicago. cheer

As far as food goes I know for sure we are being treated to a wondeful lobster party Saturday evening!

Wherever you go and whatever you do have fun and most of all remember what Memorial Day is all about. :)

Wishing you a great time in Jamaica, Sue and Tom!

We'll be arriving in London on Memorial Day! We've got plans to dine in an Indian restaurant - so no BBQing this year.

Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone!

Great plans, you guys! I am jealous!!!

We are headed up to your neck of the woods, Trish - my grandfather passed away earlier this month and my family waited for this 3-day weekend to have a special memorial service for him for those of us from out of state. We couldn't make it back for the burial, so it's good we can get back for the memorial service. It will be more of a celebration of his life than a sad funeral.

You must be so excited, Sue!!! Enjoy Jamaica Inn and your time with Dave & Holly! Take pics for me!!!

And Denise, have a "bloody good time" in London - should be quite lovely this time of year!

Indian food in London sounds really good! We're going to finish packing for WAVE and take our cameras out on a local excursion to the local botanical garden. Oh, and we're BBQing with friends on the holiday. With the local bear in residence, maybe we can have a little excitement.

Jamaica and London and bears, oh my! Saturday I'll go out to the race track and play the ponies while Paul makes a birthday cake for his previous boss. Flank steak on the grill for us and maybe some corn. Safe travels to all.

Kristin, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Thanks all!

Denise; Indian food in London - jolly good!

Kristin; my best to you and Greg and your family. I hope you have nice weather and enjoy the family time. Dave and Holly are so excited as we are - we are sharing a private car transfer to the resort so our fun will start as soon as we all get off the plane!

Good luck with the ponies Robert!

Kat I hope your bear stays at bay and doesn't end up eating your BBQ!

Well, it sounds like alot of plans are in the works for this coming weekend. Randy and I may travel up to his hometown of Virgilina, VA (right on the border of Virginia and North Carolina) for their Summerfest, an annual volunteer fire department fundraiser. I am preparing myself for the parade, small carnival rides, local crafts, good carnival food and lots of Brunswick Stew and fixins. It's a fun time to laugh and eat with Randy's family!! We hope Randy's mom can return for the day as she has had 2 surgeries since Thanksgiving and not returned home yet. This also depends on how my body has mended. I return to work on the 29th and don't want to push it over the weekend.

Everyone have a save and happy holiday. Enjoy your time with family and friends. :app:

Kristin, So sorry for your loss. Have a safe trip.

We are off to New York for the week-end! We're taking our grandson, J, for his first trip to the "Big Apple" (his mom and dad get to come too). We have done the city with both our older grandchildren, now it's his turn. He is 12, and he is very excited! So are we!!!!!

All of these plans sound wonderful.

So happy to see you "out and about," Jan. Enjoy Bermuda.

Kristin, so sorry for your loss.

Denise, Sue and Tom, and Betty: hope you have wonderful trips.

We are staying in Tucson and have no plans. One of our friends is recovering from complications from heart surgery. We have been helping his wife cope and Alan has been on pool duty. Our friend came home today so I imagine that we'll be celebrating his recovery with them this weekend. Good health is everything!

Editing to say - happy cookouts to Robert and Kathy.

It sounds like everyone is having fun this Memorial Day weekend. I hope you all enjoy your time together with families and friends.

Kristin, my condolences for your grandfather.

I will be spending the weekend in Seattle - working! For reasons unknown to me (and most of my colleagues), the American Society for Mass Spectrometry are having their annual meeting beginning this weekend. I'll be spending from Saturday through to Wednesday with 6000 PhD chemists and physicists - such joy. Jim will be home in Boston playing golf and going to cookouts.

The best part of the holiday weekend for me is that I will get to see Fred and Pat - we are having lunch together this Friday prior to their departure for Europe.

Have a great weekend - please think kind thoughts on Saturday morning as I have to give an hour long speech to hundreds of people at our annual users meeting. I'm on draft five and still not satisfied with the presentation. Instead of continuing to work on it, I'm taking an LCT break - so much more fun than the real world.

Kristen - safe travels - we posted at the same time so I missed your sad news. Our condolences on your loss.

M'ellen - you are lucky to be having time with those two wonderful LCT'ers in the Pacific Northwest. Give them a hug. I heard a speech coach speak on Friday about being real and approachable while speaking. While content is important (especially with that audience), the higest rated speakers are natural, genuine and loose.

We forget about the US holidays while living in the UK.
Denise, enjoy your Indian food in London....we have become big fans of curry while living here. We are off to Cork, Ireland for the weekend so we can kiss the Blarney Stone! Wish it was Bermuda or Jamaica though... lucky Jan and Sue. Everyone have a safe and happy holiday weekend and enjoy all the BBQ's!
Cheers, Pam

Sue and Tom, please take a couple of pictures and share when you get back

Denise, London! Lots of food, libations, merriment....have fun wave

Oh, Kristin, I am so sorry for your loss.

Kathy, that bear will maybe be joining you and asking why he wasn't invited!

Robert, do YOU get many baked goods?

Beth, enjoy, but take it easy and don't overdo it!

Betty, hope J lets YOU sleep at least a little.

Donna, bless you and Alan for being such great friends. I grew up hearing my mom say, "If you don't have your health, you have nothing". How true.

Have a great time in Bermuda Jan!

Mary Ellen, it could be worse?

Pam, your Cork weekend sounds wild and crazy. Enjoy.

At the price of those hotel rooms, in the city, it would be a cryin' shame not to sleep a tiny bit. Don't you think?

Sounds like everyone has wonderful plans.

Kristin, I am very sorry for your loss. I recently lost my mom but it's getting a bit easier for me as each day passes.

We are going to a friends sons high school graduation party Saturday evening. I'm co-hosting a bridal shower for a very dear friends future bride on Sunday. I will be going to their wedding next weekend in Playa del Carmen. I'm going solo because hubby hates hot weather and the beach! Hubby is a native Houstonian and despises our lovely hot and humid months!

I'm a real estate agent and I'm pretty busy with several buyers so I could be working over the weekend if need be!

Thanks for all your kind words, everyone! And Nancy, I am sorry for your loss, as well. It's comforting to know that Grandpa is in a MUCH better place now, smiling down on us.

Sounds like lots of you have fun plans for the weekend - come back & tell us all about it next week!

Kristen, have a wonderful celebration of your grandfather's life, rather than to mourn. We all pass at sometime, and I would rather see your route than some others!

To all others, have a great weekend! I wish I could be doing something special, but living at the beach, always try to get over to Assateague Island for a day off-road on the beach!

I am so sorry Nancy! Never a day goes by that I don't miss my Mom terribly but it's so comforting knowing that they are at peace, pain free, in a better place! You will always have such special memories of her!!

Kristin, I think that is so special that your family can all be together to celebrate your Grandfather's life.

As for our plans for the weekend, absolutely nothing planned. When you're retired, every weekend is a holiday weekend! :app:

Betty, Karen, Donna, and Marcie,

thank you so much for your sweet and kindful thoughts. When my mom passed away I just wasn't comfortable posting on LCT about it. Everyone on this board is so wonderful and I am grateful for all the support.

My mother was so loved and well thought of and this really helps me and my dad get through the loss. My dad is doing really well and we are going back to Florida to see him over the 4th!

So, Robert, what's the best of the baked goods?
And, since we are talking grilling...my father wouldn't let us put anything on our steaks while we were kids growing up...said it was too expensive to ruin the natural steak taste. I asked for ketchup one time...thought my dad was going to have a heart attack...what kinds of cooking secrets have you learned from Paul?

Nancy, I couldn't let this thread go by without telling you that I am sorry about your mom. She may not be physically here any longer, but she will alwyas live in your heart.
