Morning! Just got back from a trip and Air Canada trashed my bag so I'm looking for a replacement. Would like to get into lightweight luggage that will stand up but not weigh too much when empty like my old bag. Searched the internet but there are so many I was wondering if any of you had any experience with the lightweights and liked them. My Rad luggage tags stood up to the test but I also had a Tumi luggage tag on from Seabourn and it was ripped to shreds. Gotta love Rad.

Pat,
I found this thread:
luggage

I thought there was an earlier one but I couldn't find it.

I just got a set of Victorinox NXT luggage for my big ol' birthday and I love it! It's so lightweight yet rugged. And in true Swiss Army style, it's designed and engineered to the nth degree. I still haven't found the toothpick, though. :) I got the wheeled cosmetics case (to DIE for!), two pullmans, a Eurotote, and a wheeled laptop carrier that can hold two laptops so George and I will share that piece. The largest pullman they make is over the airline size limit, I think, so be careful if you choose this line.

I'm loving my new suitcases. So much lighter than my old Hartmann which unfortunately still looks pretty good.

Make sure you look at www.luggageguy.com

when you are ready to buy.
Don't know if they will have anything, but worth looking at.

Thanks guys for all of your suggestions and links. I found a luggage store in downtown Toronto that sells most of the brands you mentioned so I will have to make a trip in town to check them all out first hand. MarnaLou, I couldn't find anyone that has the Victorinox luggage in a store locally but the wheeled cosmetic tote that you have looks really great. Couldn't find an online picture of the inside so could you describe what the inside has in the way of compartments etc. Thanks! Pat

Hi Pat, which store are you going to? I remember you and I talked about luggage a couple of years ago!

Hi Wendy,
I found a store on the net that sells lots of the brands such as Tumi, Briggs & Riley etc. that some of the LCT folks mentioned. It's right downtown at Yonge and King.

Pillowcases are very lightweight and are flexible if your stuff is strange size (e.g., snorkel gear). Just wrap the open end using duct tape and you are set. Also, very few people use pillow cases so there is no confusion at the baggage claim. Of course, if you want to make sure, you could use colored duct tape to distinuguish your luggage further.

The wheeled cosmetics tote has two compartments, one above the other. The lower compartment is the smaller of the two but could probably hold a pair of slippers, and it's easy to access through its own zippered opening so that's where I put the things I'll need en route. The upper, larger section has two pockets and an elastic band for holding items upright. The open space is ample. It's all lined with plastic. There are also two outer pockets for this and that, like a bottle of water.

The handle twists when fully extended for an ergonomicallly advantageous position for your hand. When it is pushed back in completely, the wheels retract (as if by magic!!) so you can put it nicely on the bathroom counter or a dresser top without scratching it and without the tote rolling all over. It's really an engineering marvel and I love it. It's actually larger than I need for bringing those items I don't want to check through.
