Congratulations, Margo. :app: I was wondering if your team won today. Did you get to play? How's your foot? Nice to know someone is on a winning team. My USTA team lost EVERY match! <img border="0" alt="[bang]" title="" src="graemlins/banghead.gif" />

Margo,
That is wonderful news!! Where will you go after Naples?(I'm thinking positive thoughts for you!)How long have you played USTA?

Anna Kournikova and Martina Navritilova will play here in July...think it's when I'm cruising. I'd love to see Martina play...she's so brilliant at doubles.

Nancy:

I hope you get to see Martina play. She is still an amazing player. She has a home here on Casey Key and sometimes practices at my club. We all stop playing and just go over to watch. She's friendly to all of us "gawkers" but we respect her privacy and don't intrude.

The Sarasota/Bradenton is home to some good players. Monica Seles lives in our club development. I've often seen Mary Pierce at one of the little french cafes on Main Street. And our team has taken some clinic at the Bollettieri Academy - just so we could see some of the new and upcoming players.

It's hard not to get crazy about tennis when you live here.

PS: When we win, we go to Dayton and the Sectional Tournament. And when we win there, we go to Nationals! I think they are in Palm Springs, but I haven't booked my tickets YET! Thanks for your positive thinking, as you can see, I'm trying a little of that myself!

Congratulations Margo! Gary went to nationals one year with his team and he's still talking about how great it was. Best of luck in the next round. We are pulling for you.

I think Martina N. is on at noon at Wimbledon today. Much to my delight, Goran Ivanisiviec (? sp) is scheduled for the second match on centre today. He's always played with passion so here's hoping he gets his game in and makes it to the second round. Weather is cool & cloudy. I'd guess some sprinkles today. Forecast is bad for tomorrow but I refuse to believe it. Cheers, Anne

Anne:

Thanks for the Wimbledon update, I haven't looked at the schedule yet.

Isn't it great when there's a grand slam going on? You can live in a tennis world all day long.

See all of you at Center Court (oh how I wish!)

Margo,
Love the "smileys playing tennis"!! Yes, it is great when you can immerse yourself in a Grand Slam...it just makes me want to play though and not watch TV. I love watching doubles to see how it's REALLY supposed to be done...not always like we play. They don't give it lots of air time though.
Good luck in the Regionals...thinking positive thoughts. Went to Sectionals twice...never farther, but it was great fun. Some of my friends made it to Nationals in Palm Springs and still talk about it years later.

Congrats Margo!
Living in Coral Gables and playing tennis 4 times a week, I can appreciate your glee.
I'm sure the woman "A" players at our club are quite envious. In which division does your team compete (4.0,4.5 etc)? Our "A" ladies went to the Nationals a number of years ago and they are still talking about it.
Living in Florida does give us an advantage, being able to play tennis all year round.
Good luck! cheer

Hi Margo! Martina's blow-out win got the front page coverage over here today. Just goes to show what determined women of a certain age can do. I think this bodes very well for you and your team.

Ivo's match was such a treat to watch live. Ivo's still got both his timing and showmanship; but he's not getting around the court as deftly as before his injuries. Youznhy just kept burying his head in his towel at every changeover through the first rain delay. There were about three delays but none of them severe. It was cold - could have used my long underwear. Karlovic took out Schripipan (? sp) in a four-setter that was a bit of an upset. Federer was playing with great grace. I think it's his to lose.

Today's got Henman & Rudsedski on Court One (first and third matches) with Capriati in the middle. Weather forecast says it won't get ugly until late afternoon or evening. Serena Williams & Roddick are up on Center for the first two matches. Home tomorrow!

I found out there's world championships in Phila starting Sept 10; one of our friends has made the British team (he's in the 80+ category - this is my dream for my later years!). We'll get a chance to see him play. Hopefully, there'll be a break in his matches so we can take him to the last day or so of the US Open. Cheers, Anne
