I think it was around $200 a night but I can't remember for sure. The rooms are not huge but some had small balconies and good sized bathrooms. The roof top breakfast was a perfect way to start the day!

In Rome I have stayed at Dei Mellini, on the other side of the Tevere river but very well located. It´s a 4 star but we found it gives reasonable rates off-season. This year however, we will stay at Hotel Ponte Sisto, very close to Campo De' Fiori. This is a wonderful location. The hotel gets very good reviews in Tripadvisor. The rates offered directly by the hotel are high but I found a booking agency in Italy ( recommended in Tripadvisor and Fodors) which booked us the rooms much cheaper( I think it was close to 50% off!). I believe the website of the agency ( and there it has links to hotel information) is www.reservationitaly.com. I'm sorry I can't provide the links to the hotels or agency as I'm in Puerto Rico and can't access my favorites.

Two years ago in Rome, we stayed at the Lord Byron. It was upscale and fairly expensive and included a terrific breakfast. It was nowhere near as expensive as the Hassler. It is small and beautiful and is in the embassy area, about a mile walk through the park to the Spanish Steps.
Several years ago, we also stayed at the Hotel Victoria which is off the Via Veneto. It was much less expensive, very clean and decent, and also included breakfast.

In August we will be staying at the Hotel De Russie in Rome as we did last year. It is steps away from the Piazza de Popolo and a 3 minute walk to the Spanish Steps and the Via Veneto. A wonderful breakfast is included.

We're wondering about something similar to Ngaire's question in the Regent Cruises area - a nice inexpensive hotel but this time near the Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci - Fiumicino Airport. We are doing our own air and thus plan to arrive a day ahead of time, then get a "transfer-tour" up the coast to Civitavecchia the next day (November 4th) to board the ship. Anyone with good ideas for either the hotel, preferably with an airport shuttle service, and/or info on good, reasonably priced independent tour companies, please post here or in the HOTEL area.
This is also posted in the Regent cruise area of LCT. Thanks so much!

When we went to Rome on our Tauck Tour we went in a day early and stayed at the Sheraton Roma. Very close to the Airport. They have a shuttle across from baggage claim, they picked us up and the price was reasonable, and they have the Sheraton Sweet Sleepers. They also have a shuttle to the Spanish Steps every hour.

There's also the Rome Hilton, right at the airport. They have a shuttle into Rome if you want to spend part of the day sightseeing. You could also use Hilton points at this hotel if you have them.

This hotel gets rave reviews on tripadvisor http://www.hotelcapodafrica.com/ It's reasonably priced, includes breakfast, on a quiet, safe street near the Colliseum.

Hi, When we are in Rome, we always stay at:www.hotel-dellenazioni-rome.com It is a "boutique" type European hotel directly behind Trevi Foutain. It"s rates are about 250 Euros per night and includes a great breakfast. It is within walking distance of everything almost(Colluseum is a longer walk). We used the ships transfer(we paid for it) to their post-cruise hotel and took a taxi to our hotel. It was only 4 minutes away.I booked through www.venere.com in Italy. Hope this helps a bit,"Ciao" Pat and Ray

We found a hotel in Civitavecchia with an inexpensive airport shuttle, close to the port: Hotel Traiano. Reasonable for Italy too, 100 euros for what seems like a nice room with breakfast.
We'll report how things go, here and elsewhere.

I second the recommendation for Hotel Delle Nazioni. It is a stone's throw from the Trevi Fountain. We have stayed there a few times, most recently in Feb. We stayed in rm 504, which is quite small but opened up to our own private rooftop terrace! Incidently, one of the Mgr's is a friend of ours and just spent his holiday with us here. He was pleased to see the recommmendation posted here. One note of caution, they are SLOWLY undergoing renovations, so the lower floors may not be available. Editing to add, pricing should be in the lower-mid $200 range - depending on season, of course. Winter & shoulder season they were offering a 4th night free. I think it averaged out to right at $200 nightly. Excellent price for City Center.
