We went to Scotland earlier this month. Took a late flight from SFO, had 4 hours at Heathrow, got to Glasgow about 7PM. We didn't want to pick up our rental car and drive on the left after a very long day, so we got a hotel.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Glasgow Airport, which is right across the street from baggage claim. Plenty of luggage trollies available, which we used. Very nice lobby, friendly desk clerk. Elevators and rooms small, by U.S. standards, but we had a clean, comfortable room and nice bathroom. The elevator was big enough for the two of us and the luggage trolly. Bob returned it after we got the bags in the room. That's how close the hotel is to the terminal. I don't think it was 50 yards away.

They have a nice restaurant there, where we ate both dinner and breakfast, and I have to say, the food was very good!! Service was good, too, very friendly.

Next morning Bob went and got another luggage trolly and we trekked back across the street to pick up our rental car.

I would definitely recommend the Holiday Inn to anyone needing accommodations at the airport.

Frances, that's great to know! When we go back, we plan to fly into Glasgow instead of Edinburgh; Gordon lives close to Glasgow and we need to see more of Western Scotland now. Thanks!

If you're going to Western Scotland, be sure to go to Ayr and Alloway, heart of Robert Burns country.

We stayed at the Ellisland Hotel in Ayr. 9 rooms, 4 stars. Just outside the heart of downtown, but walkable to just about everything. Fabulous food!!

It's part of the Costley & Costley chain. They have 14 small inns and hotels. Mr Costley is a chef and artist. The public areas of their hotels are filled with his water colors.

It's about 35 miles from Glasgow airport. The worst part of driving we had was the roundabouts in Ayr aren't as well marked as they are on the motorways, and the street names change with great regularity. They are famous for their race track, and you see lots of Racecours Terrace, Racecourse Way, Racecourse Road. After going up and down the High Street, back roads, side roads, we came to a stoplight. To the right was Alloway Place, to the left was Racecourse Rd.

Such a beautiful area of Scotland!!

Take care.
