Okay all you LCT'ers who have great hotel recommendations. I really dont because as you know I seldom fly in before cruises or stay over after cruises.

He wants a hotels in the $300 to $400 price range a night. Prefers centrally located so he can just walk around from the hotel.

Nice, France - close to the foreshore.

In Rome - centrally located so he walk around the key sites - either Spanish Steps or Pantheon etc area.

In Paris - once again centrally located.

Any ideas.

Ngairie - there are a few port threads going on his very subject. Wandra (Wendy) has been asking about Monte Carlo and in Rome there are several posts about places to stay. Bernini Bristol comes to mind in Rome.

Here is a link to the Monte Carlo/Nice thread:

Hi Ngaire,

In Rome last year we stayed at a boutique hotel, Hotel Dei Mellini a 4 stars hotel. It's on the opposite side of the Tiber river from the Spanish Steps, but you can walk evrywhere( maybe except the Colosseum): 10-15 mins. to Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, 15 mins to St. Peters, 10 mins. to Piazza del Popolo.
www.hotelmellini.com . I'm sure the rates are within his range.

However, if I had his budget, I would stay at Hotel de Russie, 5+ stars hotel. Its situated between Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo, very well situated. It's a very expensive hotel but in the summer and in the late fall/ winter they have a "special" of €365 for a double.

Editing to add: The Intercontinental Hotel de la Ville at the top of the Spaish steps. The Hassler is also at the top of the Spanish Steps, next to De La Ville, but it's probably over what he wants to spend

In Paris, French friends put us up in the Hotel de St. Peres on, what else, the Rue de St. Peres just off Blvd. Saint Germain-des-Pres on the Left Bank, a block from the center of things, and an easy walk to the S. A delightful small hotel, exceptionally nice, helps if you speak some French but not absolutely essential, we didn't think, although it may be difficult to make reservations without speaking some French, (or having someone who does make them for you). We absolutely loved it!

Another alternative is the Jolly hotel next to the InterContinental in Paris. It's just off the Place Vendome in the 8th district and near the Opera. Very good hotel & very convenient to most of the sights. Importantly, only about 1 block away from Angelina's tea house for breakfast or tea (chocolat africa - mmmm). Cheers, Anne

I have thinking about doing a long weekend in Paris the last week of Jan or Feb. According to their web site, they are sold out. It must be a great place to already BE full this early for the dead of winter time. Sure looked great in the photos.

One of my colleagues recommended it. I stopped in to see a room last time I was in Paris and I wish I had been staying there! Hope a room will open up between now & then for you.

You know, Betty, I'd send a FAX to double-check with them. The web says it's been recently renovated but possibly they are scheduling some other sort of work on the property. Whether it happens on schedule or not, of course, is anyone's guess.

Cheers, Anne

Prior to a RSSC Navigator cruise in 2001 we stayed at the Intercontinental de la Ville near the Spanish Steps in Rome and really enjoyed the hotel. It is an older hotel but very nice and the service was excellent.

We stayed at the Hilton Paris on Ave. de Suffren in May while attending the French Open. We found it to be fine, with a good location near the Eiffel Tower.. We walked everywhere (except to the tennis stadium as it was VERY hot and we were hosting customers!).

LAst time we stayed at the Hilton, only time, the room was pretty delabidated and the hallways had peeling wallpaper.. as in that place had seen finer days. Perhaps they have done some major decorating since our stay.
The location though was very good with some excellent bistros down the street.

Paris...the Victoria Palace on the cusp of St. Germaine and Montparnasse. Wonderful 4* hotel with great rooms and service. Centrally located. I've stayed at 6 different hotels in Paris and this is the best value. Usually under $200 Euros including breakfast...large rooms and marble bath...quiet....room service...breakfast included. Very polite and helpful front desk. Lots of good restaurants in the vicinity.
