We have a private driver lined up for a day on the Amalfi Coast while in Sorrento for our upcoming Diamond cruise. I was amazed, but the company was going to charge us $200 more for them to pick us up at the pier, rather than at a Sorrento hotel located about 5 minutes from port. So we agreed to take a taxi to a specified hotel in Sorrento. When I got our cruise documents and the Radisson Destination Book (which are very nice and thorough), they mentioned that taxi's are plentiful, but it may be difficult to get one for a short distance. Did anyone experience difficulties in getting taxis into Sorrento from the pier. If so, we may have a long walk! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sally, can't comment on getting a taxi, but I can tell you, you will not be able to walk it!!! The pier is far below the center of town or where the hotels are located. There is a very short, extremely steep road that should only take a few min. by car. We saw a few people walking it (no bags or luggage), but it looks treacherous. Very steep, curvy, with cars and buses flying by. All the hotels are up on the hill, I can't imagine taxi's won't go there.

When we were there, the ship provided a shuttle bus service to the center of town.

We used DriveAmalfi(info@driveamalfi.com) for our private shore excursion of Pompei and the Amalfi Coast and recommend them without question and they pick you up from the pier without any extra charge.

Drive amalfi doesn't have a website.. his name is Salvatore and I will get you his email address. I have never used him but hear good things about him. There is a company we did hire:
Marcello is the owner. He gave a great tour. Never shuts up.. Really loves his country. HAd fabulous tour of Amalfi coast.
Both of these guys pick you up at the ship. If you are told to taxi into town that is the wrong company to hire- too much of a hassle.

We've used Renato Cuomo's service a couple of times and had great service. No additional charge for a pick-up at the pier. Website is http://www.cuomonet.it Cheers, Anne

We have used www.sorrentolimo.com twice. Rocco Gennaro is a great driver.

Hi Karen,

He does not have a Website but you can contact him at info@driveamalfi.com. He's a great guy with a real professional approach. He is a local guy from Amalfi and was at the Five Star Hotel Santa Caterina for 20 years and drives a Mercedes Limovan.

Thanks for the email addresses.

Carolyn, did you type those asterisks in your post above? If not, it looks like a automatic censor which we do not use and I will need to check into that!

We had Rocco Gennaro, Sorrento Limo, as our driver last year. He was excellent!

We have also used Sorrento Limo and had a wonderful time. I take some offense to those who said you could not walk to town from the pier. It is a tad strenuous, but we made it in about 10 minutes. Otherwise, sure either the ship will provide some transport or you should be able to find a taxi. Jeff

Don't miss eating at Caruso's Ristorante' if you are having a night in Sorrento..
This is the BEST restaurant in my book in the world ( well I may have another) but this is so over the top you will want to come back again.
That is exactly what we did ( ate there last year and booked a cruise that over nighted in Sorrento to do just that).. AWESOME!!!!!
