I am having a hard time choosing a shore excursion for the stop in Hiroshima during our upcoming RSSC cruise from Tokyo to Hong Kong. These are my choices:

Day trip by bullet train to Okayama Castle and Korakuen Gardens.

Peace Memorial Park and Museum in Hiroshima.

Kintai Bridge and Iwakuni Castle.

Miyajimi Island and the Isukushima Shrine.

I am leaning toward the day trip by bullet train or Miyajima Island, but I would really appreciate any input from anyone who has visited this area and any of these places. Thanks!

I have been to both Peace Memorial Park/Museum in Hiroshima and Miyajima...both are lovely and in fact I was able to do both in the same day (I had come down via bullet train from Kyoto) but it would take up your whole day.

It depends on what you want to do or see...if I had to pick, it would be the memorial. To this day I can close my eyes and feel the extreme loss of humanity and the reverberations of that bomb in our world today.

I must have done the same tour as I too did the Peace Memorial Park and Museum plus Miyajama by bullet train from Kyoto on the same day. It was quite expensive and a very long day but well worth it. I am so glad I've seen it. I totally agree with all your sentiments "Gatowoman". If I had to choose, I'd definitely go to the Peace Memorial Park - the memories will stay with you a lifetime. Lee

Thanks very much to both of you for the info! It doesn't seem as though many people have been to this port. Since I will actually be in Hiroshima maybe we would have time to do the Miyajima excursion and still see the Peace Memorial on our own.

I think you will...the train ride to Miyajima is less than an hour from Hiroshima

Miyajima is beautiful - but I agree, I think the Peace Museum would be well worth it. If you can do both, even better!
