I've spent quite a bit of time reading up on all this, I find it fascinating! Ideally, I'd like to spend a couple of days in Cape Town as well as the safari. I'm reading that the safaris are best on a "private game reserve"...pricer perhaps but better in all respects. I'm sure Ngaire, Irv, Betty, Claudia, Bette, Dixiechick and others can shed light on these things as well.
