It seems that the on line check in is actually working. I just took a photo of the bar codes on the boarding passes, but they weren't even asked for and we also weren't asked for the credit card. I don't know how Rome will do the check in, but in Athens we were able to check in immediately when we arrived at 11:15 for our 12:00 time.
