Arlene, about 8 artists had significant damage to their work and or tents. There was only one injury from cut glass and they were treated and released from the emergency room. Just one poor artist lost enough that he packed up and went home. We spoke with our stained glass friends the next day and David reported that he was really nervous as he and Linda rushed to take down and protect their work. He kept trying to get her to go into the Student Union to seek shelter but she would not until their glass was secure. Then she finally went inside while he stayed holding down the tent. They did fine. Except for that 30 minute period we had wonderful weather. In general, the regulars weathered the storm OK while the first timers were really spooked. It pointed out the importance of knowing how every city's severe weather warnings work. Our sirens sounded long and loud but some thought it was a test. (Our tests are done on Tuesdays at 1:00 or 2:00 PM and are not that long.)
The majority of the artists that were interviewed in the closing hours of the fairs said that sales had been very good. The final survey results are not back yet.
