Hi, I'm not a New Yorker, I live in Toronto and visit whenever I can (not often enough.) I've never found Manhattan unsafe. I've also been out to Queens and Brooklyn. David, my husband, lived in New York in the 60's and he's astounded at the difference. It's a very liveable city. There are places you would not want to go, but for the average tourist or business traveller, you have no worries.
