I am looking at 2 cruises to celebrate our 20th anniversary this summer - Athens to Istanbul or Istanbul to Venice. Have visited both Rome and Venice, but have not been to Turkey or Greece. Any input on a first time cruise to this region or which cruise has the best ports? We will be travelling with 13 year old daughters, but they're flexible. We've sailed on the Mariner to Alaska and the PG. Thanks.

Welcome to the board! My favorites in that area were Istanbul, Santorini, Ephesus and Monemvasia. I don't think you could go wrong with either itineray, though!

I spent a lot of time up in Montana when my family was in the cattle business Everyone had alligator cowboy boots, wore their hats during dinner. On formal nights blue jeans were the bottom half of a tux. I like to see that on a cruise. I'd be right at home.

Didn't mean to hijack the tread but I just had to say that.

Hey Chip, I'm with you. Our first cruise to Polynesia on the Paul Gauguin, my husband said, "what do you mean I can't wear my cowboy boots--you mean I'm going to have to buy shoes?"

He was glad in the end, but I know I will have to same fight with him when we go Athens to Istanbul this summer on the Diamond.

We are traveling with our daughter 16 and our son 18 on the Athens-Istanbul cruise Aug. 9th. It sounded like a good trip for our whole family. Maybe we will see you onboard.
