The Chase Sapphire Reserve Card has been my go to for charging cruises because they offered triple points for cruise purchases. I see that after October 26, 2025 cruises will drop back to 1 point per dollar which isn't a very good points deal.It appears you will still be able to get 2x points on the Sapphire Preferred card but that is still a big cut. Anybody else looking at changing their points strategy for cruises after Chase makes this change to the Sapphire Reserve?

Jim, I haven't decided yet regarding CSR; I have 480,000 points I'm aiming to use on flights to Cape Town in January 2027 and back from Barcelona April 2027. I have no more final payments until next July. Getting three points with each point being worth minimum of $0.015 meant a return of 4.5%; something that could never last. I have a number of trips where only cancellation insurance I have is the $20K CSR; that goes away if I cancel card. I think I'm going to see if I can get benefit out of the new Chase Travel credits. I might just put $20K on CSR and the remainder on DL Amex for future cruises.

Marc

edited to add: What if we booked cruise directly through Chase Travel? We would probably have to pay rack rates but we would get 8 points per dollar which would equal $0.12 per dollar; or am I missing something?

Ralph has always been the expert on CSR so I am hoping he chimes in.

I am not sure I am much of an expert on anything or ever was. The CSR card has been my go to card for some years now. The announced changes and increased annual fee do have me wondering what to do.

I would be interested in what others have decided to do. I am looking at a few bloggers and trying to see what their views are and any actions they may take.

I do have two cruises booked. One cruise payment will be soon so will get the 3x for that. The other payment is well into 2026 so will not get the 3x.

I just looked at a Wells Fargo card that could be interesting but the transfer partners are limited so not sure about that one. A transfer partner with CSR is Singapore Air which I have used a fair bit. It is missing from the Wells Fargo list.

We have enjoyed a terrific benefit for some years so I guess we can not complain too much. Again any and all input to this topic would be helpful and encourage others to voice their thoughts and opinions.

We also have an AMEX Green card that is still doing 3x points on travel across the board. We find Chase points to be easier to redeem for the airlines we are more likely to fly. We are weighing switching more to AMEX points for cruising versus staying with Chase's Sapphire Preferred card that is offering 2x points on travel across the board including cruises.
