Oh, that's right. That's why I initially booked 5 spots for the whale watch. :D Yes, Kathy - it's 2 PM, LOL.

The roll call has been updated (3-4 posts above this)

Masaki: I know I am being lazy and not rereading all whale threads - what time do we leave with Capt Larry and estimated time return to ship???

Joanna - pick up time at their office is at 2:30 PM. We'll be gone from 3 PM and I believe that they told me to expect the trip to take total of 3 hours or so so we'll be back around 6 PM I think. Do you want me to confirm with them return to ship time?

Masaki, the reason she is asking is because her neurotic friend (me) takes forever to get ready for dinner and we are trying to decide if I will make it to the table before breakfast. If we get back to the ship by 6:00, I will make it by 7:30, lol. If the excursion is over at 6:00 and we don't get back to the ship til later, I will have the eggs Benedict.

Karen - LOL! I'll email Orca and find out when we're expected to return to ship. :)

(Editing to say: just checked my trail of emails with Orca and they did say 3-1/2 hours. So we're looking at 6:30 PM return to ship. Karen - you apparently will be eating dinner at a New York City dinner time. Good thing the dining room stays open late!)

Dinner at 8 is good! Works for me too. And since there is no formal night we're in good shape! That will be a good night for Signatures or Latitudes for those NOT going on the Whale Watch! Don't forget that it doesn't get dark until LATE. At least 9 or 10 pm

Thanks, Olivia for the sunrise/sunset schedule - 6:45 for sunset is terrific. We can get some really terrific sunset shots from the ship!

When we were there in 2001 it didn't get dark until after 11 pm and the sun came up at 2:30 am. Really affects your sleep!

Kathy, I was there in early June once, so know what you mean. This will seem more "normal", unlike Norway next June!

Gee, I think we're all on 7 - that would be pretty funny, don't you think? Someone has to be platnium on this trip, so they can order all the drinks too!

Masaki, is there still room? Is everyone just going whaling or are some doing helo too? Do you need to have previous experience operating a harpoon or do they teach you while you are out? I was trying to compare to Regent's offerings but it seems they only have an evening whale excursion.

thanks!

Marc, if you go on the evening whale watching excursion, don't forget to bring your whale oil lanterns. :)

Marc - I don't think it'd be a problem to add 2 more at this time. Give ORCA a call (I think the phone # is somewhere on page 3 of this thread) - let them know you're on our excursion and get added to the list. :)

Aarrgh.. I keep calling both Orca and the Bear watch company but our schedules are just too far off. I need to make my deposit! Any suggestions? Do they have an e-mail or snail mail way of turning it in? <img border="0" alt="[bang]" title="" src="graemlins/banghead.gif" />

Lauri - sorry, I don't have any great suggestions. For Island Wings, there's really no other choice besides continuing to try to call them - I'm assuming you're getting their answering machine?

For ORCA, if you get desperate enough, you could fax your credit card info to them - (907) 586-6929. I get nervous about faxing CC info but if you can't get a hold of them in any other way, they did suggest this as an alternative.

Yes, I keep getting the answering machine at both places. I guess I'll just keep trying.

If you have no success with Island Wings, we used Southeast Aviation (link below) when we were on the Mariner in 2004. They were highly recommended and quite good. (At the time, we even had a 2-for-1 coupon from the Toursaver Coupon book for Alaska, but I think they no longer participate.) By the way, there is still a 2-for-1 coupon for Talkeetna Aero services, which we took over McKinley from Talkeetna, and it was fantastic. Someone on the CC board was trying to sell a Coupon book that was only partly used.

Eugene,

Don't buy a coupon book. You can pick these up free right before you board the ship in Vancouver. (Maybe there will still be some when you all board the end of August.) They were plentiful on July 5th.
