Pricing for ROAR 2
2007 Pricing where possible. We have all the game lodges and Birkenhead House at locked in 2007 rates. Radisson is priced at 2007 levels but not locked in and I will check out Victoria and Alfred when in Cape Town in September 2006. The air charter flights can also change a lot between now and 2008 and we cannot lock the air charter or transfer costs. They have just added fuel surcharges to all their flights. These costs are bound to increase and are a big part of the expense.
Exchange Rate Be aware these prices are “as it would be today†with today’s exchange rate calculated. However it could change dramatically. Either up or down. The exchange rate is high right now and this makes a huge difference.
At 7 rand to the $1 means 50,000 rand would be $7,142.00 At 6 rand to the $1 means 50,000 rand would be $8,333.00
$1191 difference (Roar and Tusk were at a much lower rand rate it has gone quite high in the last few months)
So be prepared for as much as a $1500 per person variance upward in these rates if exchange rate drops again and flights increase in cost.
All prices are quoted in rand and will fluctuate with the exchange rate. Since the figures are going to change with flights and pricing that cannot be locked in anyway I will just quote the US dollar pricing at today rates to make it easier. If anyone wants the current rand rate just email me. All pricing PER PERSON.
So here are the figures. I am not going to post any single supplements; I will contact those people on their program by email.
Below each option is the price for the using Madikwe Hills and Leopard Hills, Madikwe Hills and Kings Camp and Mateya and Lions Sands.

Ngaire, you are such a trooper!
One question, though; way back when, I got the impression that if we stayed six nights, the seventh was also free. I know the "deal" was pay for 6, stay 8, would we be forced to add another night to get it?

Look at it like this Pam.
Stay for 6 nights and only pay for 5 nights. (our safari program) Stay for 7 OR 8 nights and only pay for 6 nights.
So when you move into the 7th night you have to pay for ONE MORE NIGHT as in the safari you have only paid for five nights.
You cant get 2 free nights when only paying for 5 nights and that is all you will have paid for in the safari. So by staying FOUR nights at Leopard Hills you move into a Seven night stay hence a one night additional charge.
You have a choice to say the eighth night if you chose.
It gets confusing I wish they worded it better.

Not sure if I should do a private email but at one time you said it was helpful to others to answer questions on the forum. So here goes.
I think consistent with your prior comments to me you thought Carol and I would be most happy with the Madikwe Hills and Leopard Hills and then extend for two additional days at Lion Sands. We would do Option one.
Would the pricing work as follows: $7,215 X 2= $14,430 + $723 X 2 X 2 = $2,892 for a total of $17,322. We start in Cape Town and end in Johannesburg.
I note that the BA flight from JNB to LHR is at 8:15pm at night so would not expect to need a night in JNB.

Andy:
All Seasons in Africa properties, Leopard Hills, Kings Camp and Madikwe Hills.
DJW521 - You have that correct. Just an additional transfer between Leopard Hills and that wont be much.
Nearly all the flights to the USA leave in the evening so you can come in from the game parks and fly right home that same day.

Looks good, Ngaire! Two questions - does this pricing include the charter flights between Capetown and the game parks? And at what point are we "locked in" on the dollar vs. rand exchange - I am assuming at final payment?
Thank you so much for all you have done in arranging this! You are amazing!!!

Yes, it includes all the flights. Cape Town to Johannesburg, then charter to Madikwe or Kruger then a charter swapping from Kruger and Madikwe and then back to Johannesburg from either Madikwe or Kruger.
However we are using 2007 pricing and it is bound to go up in 2008. Just wanted to give you a ball park.
You are locked in when you pay. If someone paid today they would lock in that exchange rate.
Our bid is in RAND so if your bid was 40,000 Rand divided by todays rate of 7.2 = $5522.
That same safari at the time we went on ROAR at about 6.2 would be $6451
When you pay any money it is exchanged at the bank rate that day. So the deposit will be paid now and you will get that rate of exchange.
At any time during the next two years if the rand is really high and you want to make a payment you can do so. I must have one of those silly signed authorization cards every time you make a payment.
When you pay your final payment the rate of the exchange at that time will prevail.
You pay $1000 and that becomes Rand, right now 7,200 Rand. If you cancel and want a refund then the refund would be 7,200 Rand and whatever that converted to in $$$ at the time you cancel.
We locked in on ROAR at the very beginning when we first got pricing and by the time we went the rand was lower so the ROARERS made out better. We locked in on TUSK but now the rand is so much higher so the TUSKERS would have been better floating they would have paid less. This is in a 5 month period.
This gets very confusing which is why most people prefer to lock in and just do everything in US dollars. This is why we locked in ROAR and TUSK and most people just travelling alone within a 6 month time frame K&D lock in.
Ker & Downey wont lock groups in any more this far ahead I guess they have lost more than they have gained. This is like locking in an interest rate, it can go up or down, some win some lose.
We can ask if we can lock in probably closer to the time. Once locked in you are LOCKED in and you cant go back and forth with the rate. If the rate is in your favor then you are tickled pink but you cant go back if you are then paying more and say "I want a refund". Either we take the risk or K&D takes the risk but it is in stone once we lock in.
We can also float with the exchange rate and see what happens.
Probably one year out we can take a vote and see what everyone wants to do. Be aware that the "lock in rate" will not be the exact rate that day. The rate will be an average of the most recent six months or so and K&D hedges their bet a little that way. The whole group must do the same thing.
On this note I went to Houston today to talk to Ker & Downey. I have been working directly with Cape Town recently but may run JUST the payments through the US office in Houston. I may have to have you fill in a different credit card form if I do that. I think many people are more comfortable with the cards being run through a US office rather than a South African office so I am seeing if we can do that. I will let everyone know.
If anyone wants to change their program now pricing is out let me know and I will see what I can do to make it work as you wish.
