Is it worth being put on a waitlist for a cruise that is already sold out for 2007? Wondering what the likelihood is that something would clear and if it did........ you really don't get a choice of cabin location etc. probably then either.

Hi Pat,
Already sold out in 2007? That did book up quickly! I think whether to waitlist, it depends on how badly you want to go on that particular itinerary. I thought I read somewhere that it was $250 to waitlist, and it's fully refundable if it doesn't clear.

They charge you to waitlist? Wow. I assume it applies to your deposit if you clear?

As I remember, when you make a deposit, you go ahead of others on the waitlist who have not deposited. Not a problem, so long as you cancel before the 120 period if what you want doesn't come through. Even after that, how could you be penalized if they didn't offer you anything, like Kristin said.

Oh - it makes more sense to me if you get to jump ahead of those who have not deposited.

Yes, it's hard to believe but certain segments of the World Cruise are sold out and waitlisted already. They told me $500.00 deposit each but it's not the money as we would get it back if nothing cleared.....it's not getting your pick of cabin location.......so I may just wait and see what happens just a little longer as there are bound to be people changing their minds and dropping out for whatever reason. We were looking at their Tahiti instead of perhaps the PG.......but now just more equations thrown into the mix to make it hard to decide. The only firm decision we have made is that we are going back next year and have aready put aside the money for it.

(editing: oops Pat, just realized you were talking about Silversea, not Regent so ignore. Sorry! <img border="0" alt="[c]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" /> )

Pat,
Out of curiosity which segments of the WC are sold out? Last I heard people had to do a minimum of 3 segments. The Voyager is such a great ship, I don't think there is a bad cabin on it so not being able to choose your cabin wouldn't concern me too much (unless you are prone to motion sickness and need something low and midship for that reason). We've had guarantee on that ship, so have Joanna & Tony (and I'm sure others as well)...so far it's worked out for us with good cabin locations.

The WC sells out quick, it really is that special with many events and excursions included unlike a normal cruise.

Pat, I didn't notice this was on the Silversea as well. I don't know what their policies are, so ignore my former post.

Ahh...the world cruise segments...I was thinking you were talking about "regular" 2007 cruises, Pat. I can understand the WC selling out quickly, especially the Tahiti segment you mentioned. I saw that, too, and thought it would be GREAT to experience Tahiti via Silversea, because SS is our "comfort zone".

I totally understand where you are coming from - not knowing the cabin location - as that is a MUST for us.

Let us know what you decide to do, and good luck!

Hi Kristen......it was on the Whisper December 04 voyage that I had the pleasure of meeting you......great ship and great cruiseline. I think we are going to do Regent's 14 day Fiji to Tahiti.....just waiting to see if our waitlist cleared for a specific cabin on the PG.

Waitlisting did work for us. In March we attempted to book a Silver Suite on Silver Shadow for its 9 night cruise out of Barbados on 12/12/2006. Our TA was only able to book Medallion Suite 735, with us waitlisted for a Silver Suite.

About two weeks ago, he contacted us and told us that we were now booked for Silver Suite 724. We thought that we would not hear on our chances until final payment date in September. Obviously, the news brought a big smile to my DW's face. On the cruise critic forum, various posters were some negative on our chances.

I don't know about waitlisting, but we do look forward to meeting Charlie on the 12-12-06 cruise. Haven't been posting much lately as quite busy with work and starting to look for some land for retirement. As soon as we have something definitive, we'll let everyone know. In the meantime, hope everyone's having a great summer.
