First - thanks for all the suggestions - it was great being back in California for a week or so. Tried some new places so I thought I'd share.
Robert - I think you recommended Petit Logis in Yountville. It was charming! Queen bed, (very comfy!) gas fireplace, wonderful spa tub. Simple but nice, and right in Yountville. They offer breakfast across the street and it was good as well. One thing - if you want ice get some before you get there - that is also across the street....
Mustard Grill (Yountville) was good as usual. TraVigne in St. Helena was wonderful!
As for Santa Rosa - this trip I was a bit disappointed - a bit pricey for what you got compared with Napa which surprised me. You can't beat Vintners Inn, but I'm not sure it's worth over $200 a night. To illustrate - a bottle of water at Vintners was $4.00. At Petit Logis a slightly smaller bottle was $ .75. I grab my own anyway, but.....
Went to all the old favorites and tried some new wineries as well. Domaine Chandon for lunch was great. Also went north to Ferrari Cerrano, Dry Creek, and Chateau Soverain. Very fun. If you are a Cabernet Franc person - don't miss Peju Province. It was yummy! Now all I have to do is make some room in the wine cellar for what I shipped....
