Kimmi, that is my favorite area. I really like Hotel Dacia and I usually paid only a little over 100 euros per night.

Thank you all so much! I am booked (w/12days to go....whew). Ended up w/one of the original hotels, that had no availability at the time. Send emails to all of them, and this was the first to respond so I jumped on it. It's 4*, excellent reviews on TripAdvisor, and remodeled in Jan '12. www.hotelparisodeonsaintgermain.com Here's to hopin' that it actually looks like the website pics! cheer

Kim - Great catch! That location is fantastic; and the hotel does indeed look charming.

One thing to remember: When you tell your taxi driver the name of your hotel, be sure to say, "Hotel Odeon Saint-Germain, on rue Saint Suplice". This is important because there is a Hotel Odeon, just a couple of blocks away on rue de l'Odeon. The Hotel Odeon has been there many years and would be the one the taxi driver would think you meant if you were simply to say, "Hotel Odeon in Saint Germain".

I recall the dear old Odeon well, as it's the first hotel in which I stayed in Paris as a student a million years ago. It was then a no-star student hotel which we all called "The Odious". About 20 years later, on a lark, I stayed there for a couple of days to see its new incarnation as a 3-star hotel. Quite a nice change, although not to the higher standard of your Hotel Odeon Saint-Germain.

Have fun. Cheers, Fred

I looked at Hotel Odeon St. Germain, no availability. In fact, today I received their reply to my 2nd email. I could hear the "Mrs. Birkenheuer, we have NO availability" lol.....I don't care, I now know that follow-up emails sometimes work! Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions. What a wealth of knowledge here ;) Now, I'm on to finding apts. in Nice and Rome....my procrastination has reared it's ugly head  .....making John very nervous;)
