Each and every day I'm receiving emails that are all in Chinese (or something similar)?? I have put a "block sender" over and over but they continue, more than ever! Apparently they're from different sources. Does anyone else get all these Chinese emails?

Maybe it's Chinese guides contacting you to set up tours when you're on your BAIL cruise!

Or, maybe it's the waiter from our dinner at Sam Woo's trying to tell you that we stiffed him on his tip!

I get them too Marcie...lots of them...delete them without opening them. It's the safest bet!

Our spam blocker is receiving over 1200 virus messages a day along with all the spam. Most of them on the nkeene@brownandkeene.com email address so I have now completely stopped downloading these and they go straight into spam now. So if you still have that address for me change it please - drop the "n". It is becoming a serious problem unfortunately. You are just on the list Marcie eventually you may need to change your email then will be okay for a "very short time" until they figure out your new one.

I have received nothing in Chinese, but I have ben bombarded by versions of the old Nigerian "you've got money" scam recently. All "reported as spam" of course.

No Chinese email here. My spam has been significantly reduced with AOL spam blocker - I know most of you use other ISPs, for good reasons, but with AOL, I've been able to avoid viruses and spam.

When I first switched to Comcast Cable Internet, got a virus almost immediately, so I stick with AOL and McAfee now as buffers. More expensive, but good for a low-tech user.

I get truckloads of Portugese spam on a daily basis.

No haven't received them.. but the "latest" is that this guy is looking for a member of our family to collect the inheritence of millions of dollars in the bank from the death of a family in a car accident in their country & since I have the last name I should contact him to sign on, give him his share ( he says he is an attorney, for their trust and can't locate relatives, so we will do) and we all make out..

Well, I used to get a lot of "take a peek at Debbie" and similar emails, but Carol got a hold of the computer one day, and all that suddenly stopped. Gosh, I wonder what happened?

Seriously, I got an email this week from some idiot from some foriegn country (Malta) who said someone by my last name had died in a car wreck in his country and left a $7 million estate to which they could find no heirs. If I would only sign over 65% of it to him (a supposed laywer from Malta)he would get me my 35%. I had never heard of the alleged deceased, and am fairly sure I have no relatives by the name given. I'm also fairly sure that, had I responded, the need for me to put up some "up front" money would have surfaced.

That definately is not Chinese. If it is Klingon, Karen S. should be able to translate it for you! We have been pretty fortunate in not getting hit with much spam.

Like Richard, we have received the Nigerian scam a few times and my husband has reported it to the FCC (I think they're the ones he reported it to. He is at a meeting now so I can't confirm it.)

OK.... I feel the need to hop in here with a few basics re: spam.
Most of you know this stuff.
This is for the guys who don't.

1. Empty emails are from spammers who are trying to verify your email address as real.
2. Do not open anything from anyone you do not know without a very good reason.
3. Do not open any email with no subject
4. Do not open any email with YOUR email address as the return address
5. Do not open any email with the subject: "hi" or "hello" (tell your friends)
6. Do not ask to be removed from the spammer's list via a "click here". You will only get more spam.
7. Use a throw-away email address when asked for an email address... like hotmail or Yahoo
8. forward all criminal spam to: UCE@ftc.gov
9. That guy in NIgeria will never give you the money.
10. Any email that uses numbers or letters to substitute for each other is spam. ie: V1agra.
11. any email that talks about prescription drugs being available is Spam
12. Any email that is from 'Amber' or has anything sexual is spam
13. Any email that suggests that you can get.... whatever (sexual reference) by dinner time tonight is spam

and the list goes on & on.

Spam is based on sending out millions of emails with the hope of a few responses.
Let's lower their response rates!
