Julie, we have taken a HAL cruise in the past and really enjoyed ourselves. We found the food to be wonderful in the main dining room, especially the beef selections which were delicious. I also fondly remember some flourless chocolate cake that was fantastic! Since we don't care to sit with strangers, we asked for our own table each night and it was not a problem. I don't think you need to upgrade the dining room and lounge if you don't want to do so.

I also don't remember any long lines during our week.
