Ngaire,
We did the Falls a year ago last January for two nights doing almost exactly what Fred had accomplished on his trip - except losing a camera. If it were to be narrowed down to one night, I would probaby; get off the plane, taxi to hotel, go to room and change into whatevr you don't care about that would get sopping wet. Then head down the path to the stairs that takes you down to the zodiac. The ride into the falls is fun, fun, fun! I would recommend taking a waterproof zippered bag (we have one about 10x12 from Magellans) to put your wallet, money or whatever you don't want to get wet - into the bag. After the ride you are off loaded at another site to climb stairs up to an area where a truck is waiting for you. The truck drops you off at another spot - refreshemnt stands, curio stands and close to the end of the hotel. Have a refreshment and then head out to do the walk of the falls, including the train ride back. One will be definitely HOT and exhausted but then that Pisco Sour back at the hotel is revitalizing. The next morning a helicopter ride would be a climatic end to a wonderful visit before heading back to BA.
Also, off topic, but thank you for all of your posts on India. I loved your colorful descriptions. Seven years ago I was invited by an Indian Friend to attend her niece's wedding in New Delhi. Four of us women decided to go for 14 days and did the wedding (six glorious days of parties filled with cultural tradition) followed by trips to Cochin, Goa, Agra etc. Your descriptions added to my wonderful memories. Thank you.
