Today we were in Portofino, a beautiful sunny day with no wind. This tiny little town is so delightful, saw a few changes since our last visit in particular a "rhino" statue I do not remember seeing again.

We selected a tour by boat from Portofino to Santa Margherita, a town we have visited before by a local bus. In the past we walked up to a church on a hill, from the bus stop, but have never really gone into the main town. It was a tender ride to shore then a 15 minute ferry to Santa Margherita. We walked the town and then visited Villa Durazzo which was on a hill behind the town. It was a walk up to the Villa but not to steep and a good road rather than cobblestones. More impressive from the outside but still nice to see this villa that once was owned by one family. Quite a lot of the family portraits and the original furniture was still in the house. Every room had a large venetian glass chandelier and they were all quite different.

The gardens of the villa were wonderful with statues and many types of flowering and large trees. A fountain had a lot of turtles and at first I thought they were part of the sculpture that was in the center of the fountain. However, when they started moving it was obvious these were "real" turtles.

During our free time we stopped and had an absolutely outstanding pizza. We followed that up with some sorbet, this time mango and raspberry. There was of course a church in the heart of the town that was very ornate and we spent a little time there, the stained glass windows were very nice.

Met Mitch and Bert in the tender back to the boat. Overall a very nice day.
