We’re back on the Voyager after a fun trip to Bangkok. Most of the full WCers were at the Four Seasons and most of the segment guests were at the Shangri La so everyone was pleased with the quality of the hotels. I was happy to stay at the Four Seasons as it is located in a different part of town from where we’ve stayed before. We didn’t have a balcony or a river view as we had 2 years ago at the Shangri La but none the less, it was very nice!
We arrived Friday around 11:00am, had lunch, got checked in and then walked around locally before our 2:15 excursion (Royal Barge down the river including a visit to a Royal Barge museum and a Buddha Temple). Taking the river cruises is always fun as you see people swimming, washing their clothes, bathing etc. in the river. (20% of Bangkok’s population lives on the river).
Bangkok is hot and humid. I’m convinced after 5 visits to Bangkok that there are 3 types of weather there…..hot, hotter and hottest. In spite of the hot and humid weather, the traffic and the pollution, Bangkok really is one of my favorite cities to visit. I think it’s the charm, beauty and warmth of the Thai people who make you feel so welcome. I don’t think there are any more beautiful young ladies in the world than the Thai women! After dinner on Friday we took a taxi to the new Night Market. This is different than Patpong night market where we’ve been quite a few times so we decided to check it out. There were 1,000s of people there and with the heat we only lasted about an hour or so. We returned back to the Four Seasons where we enjoyed a nigh cap with friends in the air conditioned lobby.
On Saturday we walked around some more, visited a gigantic department store in a huge mall then went for the famous Thai massages. They were wonderful! I had a full body scrub followed by a massage. Tom had a 2 hour massage. This was heaven!!! Thailand is known for having the world’s best massages….and rightfully so! For such a short trip to Bangkok, I feel like we fit a lot in!!
We arrived back at the Voyager about 6:30pm. After dinner at Latitudes we went to the St. Patrick’s Day party.in Horizon Lounge. This was lots of fun with singing, games, dancing and even green beer. This morning we were up early for a surprise birthday breakfast for a friend (Joanne Chane). The breakfast was on the outside deck of Horizon Lounge with lots of food, champagne and even birthday cake made of crepes. The deck was so beautifully decorated!
Now we have 2 sea days (YEA!) before we arrive in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Tonight we’re eating dinner with CD Jamie and Dana so this should be fun.
I took so many pictures in Bangkok. Unfortunately I can’t upload them on ofoto because the slowness of the internet, I get timed out but here are some.
