Actually if your air conditioner does get overheated, or freezes up the breaker is suppose to blow so you don't burn up the compressor.
I live in low humidity area too, but it is very interesting when we have opened up the house how you can feel the difference.
When and if it gets back down to the lower 60's at night I will be opening the windows and turning on the whole house fan.
