I am a 4th generation Angeleno. My family landed in California in 1902 and came to LA in April 1906 due to the San Francisco Earthquake. We've been here just under 100 years! For those of you who don't know, it's rare to find people born here before 1960. There was a air of sophisication and glamour that went by the wayside. My Mother went to Fairfax High School and I am a product of the LA Schools when they were ranked #1 nationally as was the whole infrastructure of this great state. I do remember not being allowed in the Los Angeles Country Club because of my ethnicity. And I heard many stories about apartment for rent signs that said No Children, No Pets, No Jews or Blacks.
Yes, we have things to mourn the loss of and things to celebrate.
