Thanks for all the replies. I also was noticing the meal prices. The hotel seems really reasonable, and the restaurants don't. I did lots of things in the past like even a few days at Mt. Fuji and a skiing trip and have stayed in a Western and a traditional hotel, done the Japanese bath and so on. I want a Western hotel with the option of Japanese dining. The food does not have to be gourmet, and I don't mind dining elsewhere.

I am a bit bumped about our changed itinerary because now we have more emphasis on Vietnam than Japan vs. the other one. We had been going to Okinawa where my dad served, but I could not see spending $8000 for two extra days.
