Shore excursions open for booking soon (3/26/14).
Strangely, there is still nothing listed for Madagascar. How will we see the lemurs? We have to see lemurs!
Does anyone have any thoughts on the most worthwhile game drives on the stops in Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique and South Africa?

I DO NOT WANT TO MISS Lemurs! And I'm almost sure they don't want to miss US!!!!
They probably are preening now for the cameras!

Lauri, 31 years ago on my first (and last) trip to Kenya (on one of those big grey ships with 80+ aircraft and 4,000+ guys) I took a three day safari to Tsavo East; it was fantastic. I would like to go back again (even though it is $299 per person).

Lauri, it's not uncommon for Regent to have no excursions available in new ports for weeks, or even months after excursions open. We had that happen on our recent South America cruise. If there aren't any excursions available for Madagascar tomorrow, we'll just have to keep checking. We can agree to let everyone know via LCT when we find excursions are available. If all else fails, we can go together and get a private tour.

For a hint of what Regent might offer here's a link to the excursions on the Oceania Nautica the next day: Nosy Be

Very interesting that Oceania is doing almost the exact same cruise just one day behind Regent!
Looks like lemurs are a definite possibility!

FYI, Regent has added a "free" excursion in Maputo--on the 26th the only excursions available were at an extra cost. Still no excursions for Praslin or Nosy Be.

Actually, I just had to call Regent about something else and asked about Nosy Be. They do have the excursions available (same ones as Oceania in the above link) but you have to call them to book. Lauri and I are booked on Nosy Komba - Isle of Lemurs. It costs $149.00. The others are free.

The shore excursion part of the website is acting a bit strange. Excursions vanish, appear, show in one place but not another... Hopefully they'll sort it out soon. I'm going to see LEMURS!!!!!

It's interesting they can have the website together for Oceana but not for Regent.... (that's me being annoyed), It's also curious that the "extra cost" on Oceana's unlimited program is less than Regent's ($65 vs $149).

Yes, but is that "unlimited program" something you pay extra for, to get the discount?
Since we happened to be able to access Oceania's pricing somewhere from these links, this is one more reason where I find the "value" to sailing on Regent, particularly in this part of the world where it may be more difficult to arrange your own excursions with known entities. Those to whom stateroom size does not matter would have a different opinion.
For a comparable stateroom to Regent, you would have to go to a Penthouse, which with excursions added, and drinks and wine if charged in the bars and dining room, I think Regent really wins on this one. I don't need all the extra amenities O supplies to this level, because I already have the ones I need or want. Even full internet not given at that level. Not sure if air is included either in those O prices. Anyway, just my take. But since I have never cruised on any of the O ships, I'm not qualified to comment on anything but the pricing. I already know I love all the Regent ships.
Not going to worry about excursions listed or not, (but yes, an irritant) since if they aren't out there, most people not booking anyway!

Totally agree! When I first learned about the Oceania offering last year I was going to book it. I think it was Marc who first mentioned Regent was changing the schedule around and they would be doing this itinerary. On the Nautica I'd be paying close to the same price for an inside cabin, whereas on Regent I just needed to find a roommate (thank you Lauri) and I'd be coming out so far ahead.

Oh I forgot to mention, yes you do have to pay a set amount for the Unlimited Passport Collection or the Your World Collection, then you also pay the discounted rate for the excursion.

Olivia and Andrea -- I was comparing Oceana's "unlimited" excursions package with Regent's "unlimited" excursions -- neither of which is unlimited, obviously. I don't know what the set price is for Oceana's unlimited package, but do know that even though it's included in the cruise fare, we're paying something for Regent's unlimited excursions. So it seems like they're comparable. Anyway, it doesn't really matter because I totally agree that in the long run, I'll always choose Regent. But that doesn't mean I can't get annoyed with Regent once in a while

Why is it we sail Regent? A third of excursions we are paying (a lot) extra and HALF of the free excursions are already wait listed. Add to that there are no snorkeling excursion in Maldives and only a few minutes of snorkeling in Seychelles; why do we choose Regent wherein we are paying for excursions up front?? Don't get me started on the $1,000+ that just showed up on my credit card. BTW, why does Oceania site have excursions for Praslin (including snorkeling) but nothing on Regent? BTW again, why does Regent have only 24 air gateways (seems half of them are in Florida) whilst Oceania has over 80 air gateways? Don't they use the same staff in Miami?

The Praslin excursions are listed under "Activities Ashore" but not where you do the booking. They really need to get their act together.

All of my wait listed excursions have cleared except the one to Kruger from Maputo. Do you think they'll offer anything for the day we get to Cape Town?

Lauri, if it is anything like our arrival in Rio, they will offer an over priced excursion and then a hospitality room at a hotel until flights leave. I am planning on booking my own in Cape Town.

They may offer something the day we get in (Dec 20), but if we're docked at the V&A Waterfront, there's plenty to do right there without a tour and there's lots of great restaurants. We might want to organize a group farewell dinner at Baia--we're in if anyone else is interested. On the day we disembark (Dec 21), Marc is probably right, they'll offer some tour plus transportation to the airport. Depending on when your flight leaves, you'd probably do better planning something on your own.

I was talking about the evening of the 20th -- the day we overnight in Capetown. On disembarkation day, we're headed to Birkenhead House after we get off the ship.

My flight on Emirates leaves CPT at 1:30 pm so I won't have time to do much on the 21st.
I'd like to go up to the top of Table Mountain. Will I have time to do that on the 20th? I think we arrive in CPT around 4 pm.
