This is just a guess, but I believe that RSSC is having trouble filling the ships on the Alaska voyages which have, "KIDS SAIL FREE" attached to them.

"Not that there's anything wrong with that . . . "

When they have a whole season devoted to one itinerary, I would expect there are challenges getting fully booked, particularly at Regent pricing compared to the mega-lines. I have a friend who just got back from Alaska and had a great time!

Olivia,

I know everything has gone up since 2001 - but our first RSSC cruise was on the inaugural to Alaska on Mariner. An H guarantee with a $400 pp stateroom credit for a 10 day itinerary was $2100 including air. - $170 pp per day comparing it to today's fare of $569.43 per diem.....

Kathy, my first cruise was also to Alaska same year, and we got a nice credit because we were first booked for Panamal Canal and there was a drydock that canceled that cruise. I thought it was so reasonable back then. Now, take a look at per diems for something like FJORDS and it almost freaks you out spending that much to travel. So, we shop around for the competition now. I think Regent always blew them away before for same itin. before all-inclusive. Not sure now, you really have to shop, and I do, based on itinerary. Best thing is that the BK group cruises give us another substantial break if you are on them.

Olivia: Fjords and B2B are very $$$$ - looking back the 2 segments of the 2005 WC, 34 nights, were costly BUT I loved every minute of that trip so happy we experienced it - and compared to Fjords and B2B it wasn't that outrageous - Lamb is good value - bottom line I wouldn't change a thing we have done -

Of course, it's supposed to be fun - was just comparing apples to apples from 5 years ago. Travel without Ngaire's wonderful service is just not the same experience.
