Thanks for the heads up Fogmalkin! JB has surgery for her sciatica on July 21st, so I suspect we will be in town. Even if she can't make it I will sure try. (Gee, I work right across the street from the Rincon Center and think I have only ever been to Yank Sing once.)

Oh goody! I will get to see you (two) again!

Before Steve and JB left for the PG, we determined that we had actually met at a mutual friend's Christmas party in about 1991.

...but we both probably drank so much that night that we don't remember meeting. Of course when we see each other again there may be a flood of memories that return and cause us both to blush profusely :o

Steve we kept our boat in the Brisbane harbor for 18 years. We sold it last year. I wonder if we ever ran into each other in the huge downtown area of Brisbane (ha ha)

OK OK, so I'm probably giving myself too much credit. Besides, both my wife and daughter were there as well...and if there was anything TOOO bad I'm sure neither of them would have let me forgot it (been there, done that!). (Unless we were stealthy of course....) ;)

Oh, and Bette, we just moved to Brisbane about 4 years ago...after 12 in Clayton. Downtown Brisbane? Not sure we've found that yet. The Chinese restaurant, the hardware store and the little grocery store (for a head of lettuce now and then) are the only places we ever visit. (We're in the condo's on the side of the hill to the north of the industrial park.)

We need a webcam for all of us DIM SUM wannabes. There will be a national surge in Chinese take-out orders on August 6. We'll have to synchronize our watches. What time does DIM SUM kick off?

Cheers, Anne

I'm not sure...someone said 12:00, another suggested 11:30.

I guess I'd be in favor of the earlier time, afterall I'll have to dash at some point to catch BART for my plane departure. Oh, and what will do with my luggage? Just shove it under my chair I guess

No need for takeout, just come join the fun!!! :3smile:

11:30n would probably be a better idea if everyone can make it.It gets pretty crowded.

Hey Lauri, as time gets closer, it may work out that we could take you to the airport. It's only about 2 miles down the freeway from where we live, and it would be a LOT faster (and cheaper) for you than taking BART. (I'm assuming you are talking SFO).

As hokey as it sounds, we are going to take a tour of Alcatraz on Saturday the 5th. Anyone interested in joining us?

Tours leave every 30 minutes from Pier 41 beginning at 9:30AM and last approximately 2.5 hours. The cost for adults is $16.50 & advance purchase is recommended. We could combine the tour with lunch or drinks.

If you are interested, please e-mail me at the address in my profile.

More tour information can be found by clicking here.

 Robert you jest!!! You'd rather go to Alcatraz than the Ferry Building Farmer's Market on Saturday???

Well, if you have never done Alcatraz, okay to go once...once will be enough! ;)

I went as a kid with my Dad. But follow my logic here...I got my way with the PG/Tahiti so if I have to "cave" to one-or-two of Paul's little requests, I can live with that! LOL

What's the FB Farmers Market? Could we do it before or after visiting the rock?

Yes...You'll love it (so will Paul).

Ferry Building Marketplace

Alcatraz visit in exhdange for PG sounds fair to me.

I went as kid too and just recalled the pervading smell of urine...(sorry! maybe they have cleaned up by now, since I went circa 1970??)

Sounds familiar Robert - negotiation - can be such a pain at times

So true, J!

Oh, I've been there, AL!! I had the most wonderful gelato from a shop there (ironically after a lunch at Yank Sing!). Forget the name but it is the same copmpany P used to use when he was cheffing at the track.

Didn't know about the market - will make time for that as well. We love those and go to the one here in Hollywood almost every Sunday.

Bette would love to, but our babysitting cards have to be used judiciously onthe weekends... :( unfortunately DIM SUM spends our allotment for that weekend! Moroccan is definitely fun with a group (and a couple of folks willing to belly dance!)

I've done both the farmer's market and Alcatraz lately (last 2 years). Both are great! Be sure to get the audio tour at Alcatraz and spend some time in a cell (creepy but also enlightening). You can do both in one day easily. And while the farmer's market is the best I've ever gone to, Alcatraz is just so unique. I agree once is enough, but once is almost a required SF experience to me.

I am having a heck of a time finding web cams near the Rincon center so that someone can stalk us on Sunday (any volunteers?).

The only good one I've been able to locate is on Pier 39 and I fear P and I will be alone on the trip to The Rock.

You locals have any ideas?

I found a great one at Sam's Anchor Cafe in Tiburon. You have to refresh it, it's not streaming.

Sam's is a great watering hole but the food is just so-so.

Drinks anyone? Sam\'s cam

It looks like our window would be late Saturday afternoon on our return from the Napa Valley. We are lunching at Bouchon in Yountville at 1:30. So...

You could catch the 4pm ferry getting you to Tiburon at 4:55 (I wonder why it takes so long?). We could have drinks for a while and you could catch the 6:05 arriving back at SF at 6:35 (or 7:35 arriving back at 8:05).

I think it's do-able!

I am coming up to SF for a Photoworkshop on People Photography!

My teacher is a Travel photographer for National Geographic/AP/USA Today and lots of other publications. She asked me to come up since I'd taken a class with her before. Frank's going too. I am so excited. Too bad it's not when you're all DimSuming. But we'll be at the Farmer's Market on Saturday the 23rd of Sept and we're going to the Autumn Moon Festival too. The workshop is very instense, full days. - 9/20-9/24. I am going to see if here is any window to grab a bite with our LCT friends while we're up there.

I know that Dim Sum is in August.

I really didn't think that Robert and Paul, Laurie, Suzie, and Marilyn would stay until the end of September (but of course if they want to maybe Suzanne can collect some rent..)...I was just interjecting that if someone missed out on THE gathering, that I would welcome an opportunity to break some bread or pop a cork when WE are up there.

Sorry you are going to miss DIM SUM K (and Frank!). That is when you will be on RCCL, right? We have our web cam stalking set up (well almost) you need to do one too! We can stalk eachother!! LOL!

I am certain there are fellow LCT folks who would love to hang when you are there later in the month.

Hey, we got stalked in Tahiti - you know there's a web cam at the ICB?

We'll have to see where there are webcams in SF close by where my classes will be. We might get to operate on a Press Pass for the Autumn Moon festival in Chinatown and were staying at the Sheraton at Fisherman's Wharf. The city is very full that weekend so hotel rates are sky high and since we're roaming about, we won't need a ***** room.
