Margo, thanks for the photos. Your suite was gorgeous. Maybe I will try it out one of these days! I especially liked the coffee corner. Great idea by Regent.

Thanks for taking the time to post these Margo...I'm trying to visualize where the new coffee lounge is? What happened to the computer lab?

AL: Computer lab still there - I think this area is outside of lab - remember where DVD's were? Looks like that is now snack bar - think of area in front of library and you are there!!! Looks so neat!!!! Joanna

Margo, I had not seen pictures of the new coffee bar on the Mariner. That is truly fantastic and a far better use of space there was so much room in that library area before and hardly anyone was ever there. Your pictures by the way were really good. Looking forward to my coffee on Panda now!!! Thank you SO MUCH for posting those!

We too are delighted with the coffee bar on Mariner. Evens it up with Crystal's Bistro. Coffee is always great because a waiter/barrista makes the coffee and there is always fresh fruit avialable. But I will miss the library. I used it alot & they had a wonderful selection. Crystal has a magnificent library. But for us from now on it is exclusively Regent forever.

Jackie: I loved the library too!!! Never spent much time in the library but loved taking books back to our cabin - hope the selection is still good - I have often wondered what they do with the paperbacks left behind from travelers - I usually leave 3 or more and have never seen them on following trips - usually biographies or non fiction -

I would imagine they get an enormous amount of paperbacks left on the ship. Only so much room to hold all of them on the shelves.

I am so excited to see this new area! I expect they don't need as many computers that used to be in this space (maybe 4-5) because so many bring their own laptops, and this is like an "internet cafe".

I am sure they do Olivia - but I never see too many of them - mostly hardbacks -

Re: Mariner Photos ( taken after drydock 2007) - 04/27/07 01:01 PM

Well, I am bringing "Looming Tower: Al Qaeda and the Road to 9/11" aboard, that recently won a Pulitzer Prize according to my book club friend who told me to take it. Not exactly "beach reading" (which I probably need). If I can't keep all those names straight, I will leave it on board and put it on the shelf myself, as it is a hardback!

Anyone looking for light, fun, wonderful reading check out a young gal with incredible writing skills, Haven Kimmel, author - memoir #1 "A Girl Named Zippy" and #2 "She Got Up Off the Couch" - her writing is a joy! Often I would reread paragraphs and highlight was that good for me! - google - buy both and you are set for fun and some very very good writing!!! Joanna

Oh my Olivia - you are in for some heavy reading. I'm bringing "Arthur and George", "Beneath a Marble Sky" and a Suduko book. After weighing my luggage, I might be going with whatever the library has to offer.
I would hope the paperbacks end up with the crew.

I hope, too, the crew gets my WONDERFUL paperbacks -

Re: Mariner Photos ( taken after drydock 2007) - 04/10/08 12:40 PM

Betty, we resolved the "heavy luggage from books" dilemma by buying the Sony e-Book which is like an ipod for books and can hold over 150 books (they are readable, not audio books). For long cruises, especially those with many sea days, as KOALA will be, it's perfect and weighs no more than 1-2 pounds, is the size of an oversized paperback, and has three font sizes. It's great. I am a good reader and am afraid that I'd have read most of the books in the library (that I wanted to read to begin with. Amazon also has one out called the Kindel (or something like that). Just sharing this info for anyone whose love of books has caused the DH a hernia or an extra suitcase. Linda & Larry P.S. Betty, didn't you just love "Beneath a Marble Sky"? It's our next Book Club selection.
