Andrea, most of the evil ones among us post. Smokers, drinkers, cheap passengers who opt for lower cains (no all the group is not into lower cabins). But we are all legit, have homes, jobs, children, retirement accounts, and can still afford those RSSC cruises that are far more expensive than those you will search up on the interntet for inside cabins on a mega ship. But of course, you already know that, I am just trying to welcome and attract others to our board who might be looking around.

Andrea, love your new picture!

Why thank you! I figured it was time to reveal myself. Hopefully I'll get the rest of my Hawaii photos uploaded this weekend so everyone can enjoy them.

Yep, I'm in 647. I don't think I said so, but I told Marcie and she added it to the first post.

Will Toga parties be involved. Maybe we should change the name to the LCT Animal House Cruise.

I just realized, our PARTY cruise is actually Leg #1 of the 2006 WC! Oh my, do you think the full WC'ers will have us tossed overboard if we get too rowdy? I guess most of them will be getting onboard in LA.

Bette - that's great news! How's Marty's leg? I'm delighted you'll get to see the rest of the the Panama Canal trip. We missed you very much on the last one. Cheers, Anne

His leg is sort of ok. He had a hip replacement in November. At some point he will have to have his other knee replaced. We are hoping that he can hold off until after this cruise. He just has so many health problems.
I am so happy that there are so many great people going on this cruise. If he wants to go to bed early I will have people to play with. When he heard that we were stopping in Cabo he got excited about fishing. I told him that he is not going.
I wish that this cruise wasn't so far away.I would love to be going next week.

We will help you organize distractions so Marty doesn't get near any fishing boats! Hope his physical therapy is on track. Getting as much of his hip mobility back will hopefully take some strain off the knee. The orthopedic options are near miracles vs. 30 years ago, but they involve a lot of time and effort to get as much use out of the joint replacements as possible. I'm hoping the time passes quickly, too. Cheers, Anne

Lawrence: I think Party and Alaska 2006 could be "Animal House" trouble - of course we all think we are young, agile, in control when drinking, carry on fascinating conversations late at night, and the truth is you are the only young one among us - and the most sane - and you like us so we can't be that bad!!! Lynn and I were considering this one, but we opted for Mariner Sydney-Auckland, since we did the Voyager Canal cruise at New Years in '03/'04. Our friends from around the corner will be aboard though. Jack Messemer and Mary Watson; nice folks. They're not online. The cruise is a really nice one. Stake yourself out a nice table at La Verandah early in the morning for the Gatun locks transit and just enjoy!

Debbie, I almost told you about our PARTY cruise in the other thread, then saw that you had found us here. It's going to be such fun! You'll never be the same again.

I tried to call Delta today to get the ball rolling on air, but I guess the Georgia ice storm has their lines all tied up. So far, I'm getting busy signals.

Pam,
All the new routings and changes were to be put in place today so it's probably a zoo and may be for awhile.

I made our total air reservations this morning, burned most of Mark's Skymiles but that's what we wanted to do, with Delta's uncertainties lately.

Delta Memphis to Ft. Lauderdale, NW nonstop back to Memphis from LAX. All First Class. Woo HOO!

At second look, I only burned half of them; we can do it again.

Pam when do you plan to arrive in Fort Lauderdale?
We will be getting in the night of the 25th.I wanted to give Marty the chance to rest up a day. Also I remember the flight problems this past Christmas.

Website says too early, but today is the day if you are flying home on Jan 10. When the website balked, I just got on the phone. I was actually able to do it late morning, but Delta has always been ready to book on the day I thought they should.

Bette, we are scheduled to go down on the 27th, since the terminal is about 5 minutes from the airport. If weather starts making threatening moves, then we might back up a day. I think Joanna said they are going in a day early, too. But we usually do okay out of Memphis. I'm excited that you are going, I remember our email conversations before your ill-fated canal cruise..

I finally managed to book air several days ago, but fare was rather high (I guess it must be that December 26 flight to Ft. Lauderdale). I got a free upgrade to FLL, but have to wait til later to request free upgrade on LAX flight home. Even booked a room for a very good rate at the Ramada very close to airport and cruise port. I'm going a day early, hoping any luggage delays will be taken care of before embarkation.

I have my ticket from SF to Ft Lauderdale. I have a U ticket. Can I upgrade a U with delta miles?
Since I only needed a 1 way ticket I hated to waste ff miles. For 10,000 each it would be worth it. I know that some tickets can't be upgraded.

Bette, I don't know anything about Delta, perhaps Marc can help, as I think this is his airline of choice or necessity. On my last trip, I had to pay a few dollars more for my ticket to be eligible for an upgrade, so there are rules. But this was with USAirways.

U fares are not upgradable with miles on Delta - K & above only.

I had planned on using FF miles for this trip but completely forgot about booking early! By the time I checked I couldn't get anything down to Florida until 12/28.

I ended up with a fairly good price - around $350. American isn't flying directly into FLL anymore (or at least during the dates I needed) so I'm flying into Miami on the 27th. First flight out of Boston, so hopefully all will go well!

Bette, maybe somebody will chime in here who is more informed than I am. But Delta offers a $50 per segment upgrade at the gate, IF space is available. I just don't know if your fare would preclude your being able to do that.

(Update: I just backed us up to fly in the afternoon of the 26th. Where is everybody staying?)

I don't care where we stay. I am open to any suggestions.
A one way ticket from San Francisco on Delta was $150.I haven't made reservations for LA to SF.
We have a lot of FF miles on Delta but I still didn't want to waste them on a one way fare.I assumed that I would be able to get an upgrade.Oh well the plane that we are now booked on has 2 seats on each side with 5 in the middle.I got to pick our seats so we shouldn't be that cramped.I don't mind going coach but Marty crabs about leg room etc.He runs around in his little race car and never complains about that. His knees are almost up to his chin.

Pam I think that you were smart changing your ticket to the 26th.

I didn't make our reservations as one-way tickets, I told them up front that we were going on a cruise and I wanted an open-jaw round trip. I was able to do it for 45,000 miles each; while I haven't looked at any of the charts lately, that seemed to be in line.

Still looking at hotels. We've stayed in that area so much that I'm inclined to be a little bit picky about the hotel. The one we would really like to stay in is so far away that we can't justify it, so I'll come up with something.

We'd love to get everybody together to eat at Cap's Place that night; it would take several cabs to get us there and cabfare certainly wouldn't be cheap. We can talk about that later.

Count us in.
I was also going to suggest going out to dinner. I wasn't too concerned about the hotel since we were going to be there such a short time.I would rather be close to where the boat will be,.
December seems so far away darn
We are not familiar with the area. I am glad that you are.

Bette, I guess I wanted to get this done well in advance because it is over the holidays, and getting a room for just one night can sometimes be diffcult. I plan on staying at the Ramada which is only 1 1/2 miles from the port. Is is only like $84 including all the taxes, etc. I've never stayed there and am not going on anyone's recommendation. So it's all going to turn out okay, I hope!

Oops change of heart on that hotel. Pam e-mailed me that it would give her "the shivers" to think of me staying in that particular area. So I am cancelling Ramada.

Olivia, that's such a relief; that is part of our old stomping ground, and I don't believe it could possibly have improved enough for me to think you'd be in a good area.

I'm going to look at some hotels closer next week, and I have asked for a quote on a mini-bus just in case there would be enough in our dinner group to justify it. It's hard for us to go to that area without eating at Cap's Place; you ride a boat across part of the Intercoastal to get there and it has major ambience.
