Does anyone else besides me think the new interactive maps on the Regent site are bad? I went to look at the Iceland-Dover map and they have these little stick things with letters instead of the old style. To make matters worse, they only show the ports in Great Britain and none in Iceland. Plus they don't show the route the ship actually takes.
Why is it that people think something that isn't broke needs fixing?

I'm not sure what has changed--the interactive maps have been there as an alternative to the normal map, which shows the route, for some time. I've never found them very useful, unless you want to zoom into the islands a la Google Maps. Has this changed in some way?

I went to Regent's web page and hit a bunch of different cruises and got the traditional map with the itinerary. Looks like that may be the only one or at least one of a very few.

it seems to be a new thing for the 2009 cruises. I just went and clicked on a bunch for 2009 and all came up with that interactive map.

I suspect that the answer is that their "standard" map takes some time to prepare. While certainly done on a computer, they require some effort to identify each port, arc the routes to avoid land masses, etc. The interactive maps are a small Google maps script that could actually be generated directly off of the itinerary listing.
I bet the old style maps show up as they get the 2009 cruises fully up to speed.
