My husband and I are considering our first Radisson Cruise and have been unable to find any acquaintances who have traveled on the Navigator. We are new to cruising -- only one to Alaska on Holland a few months ago. Can anyone give me a personal report about the ship and what we might expect (New England Trip)

Hi,

Did first RSSC cruise, Canada/New England, on Navigator June '04; it was great. If you do a search, there is an awesome multi-part review by Masaki on this board. We went the following week and I did a much shorter review. And ChatKat and Joanne(can't remember board name) went this fall and gave updates from ship(late Sept. I believe) so you will find lots of info right here. I'm sure others will respond also.

Welcome!

Have done Mariner and Navigator. (Doing Diamond in Jan.) Even though Mariner was a newer ship, I LOVED Navigator! You will not be disappointed! Rooms are well-appointed...very comfortable. Baths are marble (love the separate shower). Staff wonderful. Meals in Compass Rose were fabulous - wines....wonderful wines...poured freely. Casino smaller than on most ships, but staffed by friendly dealers. Pool - not overly large - but rarely used by anyone. Deck chairs very comfortable -but on our fully booked ship, sometimes at a premium. Overall -wonderful cruise - and ship.

Our first cruise was to Alaska on the Navigator. You will love this ship and not be disappointed. I agree with the posts, above, about the well-appointed and spacious suites, excellent dining choices and crew.

I do hope you'll give Radisson a try. We'd sail on Navigator again, in a NY minute! Once you try Radisson, you'll be a frequent sailer! Last year we sailed on the Voyager and this year we sailed on the Diamond. We've got our next cruise booked all ready for next August on the Voyager, once again. As you can see, we love all the Radisson ships, each of which are special in their own way.

We were on the Navigator twice this year. She is a beautiful ship with lots of space. We were on the Bermuda itinerary in June and again in September for the New England/Canada itinerary. It is a quieter ship than the Mariner, which, we sailed on in the Panama Canal (our favorite all time cruise) and Alaska. There are many private areas of the Navigator and with 400 pax full, you can meet someone the first day and then not run into them again the entire cruise. I missed the promenade area that Mariner offers and I like the option of more choices for dinner, but, I had absolutely no complaint. Just a preference. There are two dining venues, food and service are excellent. We did the 9 night NE/Canada trip, which I HIGHLY recommend. We were very tour intensive on this cruise and did the longer tours almost every day, except in Boston, where we wandered on our own. RSSC had a shuttle from the ship, so it was easy to do. The shorter (7 day) cruise does not include Prince Edward Island, which was our favorite Maritime port. We also recommend that you find one of the itineraries that does the overnight in Quebec. We did not have enough time there and we will go back. You will not go wrong on this ship or itinerary. It was a great choice. Please let me know what your specific questions are and I can answer them. JoAnne (cruisinfanatic) will probably jump in here too somewhere and can give you a HAL/RSSC comparison since she's done those and I haven't

My first Radisson cruise was Navigator to Bermuda in April. I loved it so much that I stayed onboard for the next sailing!

The bathrooms are HUGE and the tub is very long and deep. Service was superb and the food was wonderful.....

After Radisson, I have no interest in sailing the "mass-market" lines again.

Hi and welcome to the board. I'm the JoAnn that sailed with ChatKat (Kathy) and husband, we've sailed with them twice, as we were also on the Mariner (agree with Kathy its my favorite RSSC ship - but we did love the Navigator) the itinerary was great and we too loved Prince Edward Island, other favorite was Bar Harbor and Quebec - agree wish we had had an overnight there. The rooms were wonderful, the staff great and friendly, food was great, we only ate in Portofino once, the rest in Compass Rose for dinner anyway. We also did HAL last March, and we do like Holland - we've sailed them twice, once in a verandah room, very nice and similar to the RSSC basic suite, and once in the full suite, which we'd probably only book next time. The Concierge for the full suites on HAL is a wonderful amenity, plus the Neptune Lounge, and when in a full suite you get some other perks that are nice, private cocktail parties, priority embarkation/disembarkation, priority tender tickets, some things like that. HAL does the traditional 2 seating meals (actually they offer 4 times now, 2 early and 2 late) they have a very nice alternative restaurant, although there is a $20 per person surcharge, it was well worth it - we ate there three times. The HAL ships are nice, well kept, clean, usually the staff is very friendly, the casino is much larger, more daytime activities, so so shows at night. If you have any further questions, or want to email me seperately, just click on the little email icon and feel free to contact with more questions. Masaki did a very nice review, very detailed. I think Kathy and I did a short review, and we did also post from the ship - started the posts on Sept 23 if you want to go back and read them. Hope this helps, again welcome to LCT, I'm sure you will find lots of good information and fun, interesting people here.

You will love the Navigator. Took her on the Montreal to NYC in June. Just as everyone says. Also, the ship is being featured in the new Pierce Brosnan movie coming out this Friday, "After the Sunset". It'll be fun to watch the movie which was filmed on the Navigator. Linda & Larry

jillfg,

Thank you for asking about the Navigator. I have been lurking a while, but when I saw your question, I decided to respond. We have decided to take the plunge and booked the Navigator for the South Pacific and Hawaii cruise November 8, 2005. We are very excited.

We took our first cruise ever on the Navigator to Bermuda in September. They offered very creative cuisine. The suites and bathrooms were good sized. We know a TA that, after finding out we had cruised said, "Knowing the two of you, Radisson is the only way I would ever recommend to you". We will probably never cruise on another line. You will love it!

Thank you everyone for making me feel welcome. We are really looking forward to trying Radisson after several cruises on HAL. We have two more cruises planned on HAL, and then we are ready for our Navigator experience, and from what I hear, we may never want to leave Radisson.

Jillfg & Sage,

Welcome to both of you!!! I'm fairly new to this board myself. I had been lurking for a couple of years on Cruise Critic and now have found a home here on LCT. Great group of people.

I was on the Navigator's 10/02 Australia/New Zealand cruise - our very first cruise. Sage, it is true - once you sail Radisson, you don't want to leave :) :) Your upcoming cruise to South Pacific and Hawaii sounds wonderful!!!!

Jillfg, I know you'll be delighted with Radisson and the Navigator. Rather than repeat myself, you may want to go to another new post here "Need Radisson Cruise Feedback" by Cruisebound2005. I mentioned all the reasons we loved Radisson and the Navigator in my reply to that post.

Also, I agree with Margo about reading Masaki's report of the Navigator. He is a wonderful writer with ton's of detail. Please, please read that. It will answer a lot of your questions.

If you have any specific questions, I'd love to help out in any way I can.
