Hello to everyone!
We have had an uneventful two days thus far. The drive to Norfolk and embarkation were the easiest ever.
The ship is lovely, but shows wear a bit. Nothing major, however. We have truly had a wonderful time thus far although we are taking a much more sedate approach to this cruise. With all that has been going on this past month, we are making this cruise an "us" cruise and are being a bit antisocial. Dinners have been quiet affairs with just the two of us. We ate in Portofino the first night, and while the food was excellent, the atmosphere is lacking (too noisy, etc, etc)
The average age is higher than previous, but we expected that. Seas have been a bit on the rough side, but I am happy to report that Paige has handled them well.
Our room steward is a bit below par, but we are hoping for improvement. We are having to request things that on our last cruise were automatically handled (ice, replenishing water, etc). Like I have said, we are enjoying things otherwise.
We will be back in contact once we get to Bermuda. Olivia, the weather thus far has been nice, but I will keep you posted once we get to Bermuda.
Anthony & Paige
P.S. Sorry for the rambling mess, but I have not had time to truly organize my thoughts

Hi Anthony,
Glad that everything is going fine and you had no weather problems.
Like you I did notice some wear in the ship, among others the bedcovers starting to look really worn and the carpet in the Vista lounge seemed to have been damaged by water. They really should take care of those things. They detract from an otherwise lovely ship.
Was surprised about your comment about the Portofino at night lacking atmosphere. When we went my experience was that it was much "cozier" and quiet than the Compass Rose. They only had a portion of the room open at night so it provided a very intimate feeling. Was the whole Portofino grill room open the night you were there?
Looking forward to your next post!
PS Have you by any chance met Arlene, one of the beverage waitresses? She's great!

Hi Anthony,
We just missed you on the Navigator. We just disembarked the Navigator yesterday. We had a wonderful time on what was our first Radisson cruise.
Sorry to hear that the service was not up to par on the first day. The service we recieved was impeccable. We were very impressed with both the ship and the line.
We dined at Portofino twice and did not experience it as noisy or uncomfortable in any way, but that experience is very subjective.
We were interested in comparing Radisson to our experience on HAL sailing in a full suite. HAL is in our opinion very difficut to match let alone beat in this area. Radisson did very well. We would not hesitate to sail on her ships again and would have booked on board if we found an itinerary we liked. If they had a Bermuda sailing we would have definitly booked it.
We will post a review. Just let me say, the Navigator is a fabulous ship with a wonderful, attentive crew.
Anthony, have a great cruise. I hope the weather is as good for you as it was for us. I also hope you are able to continue to post on this board as we had internet problems while onboard.
One question. Have they installed DVD players? We heard they were doing this in NYC after we disembarked.
Linda
Thanks for listening.

Welcome back Linda!
You may want to get in the habit that we (and lots of others here) are in. We ALWAYS book something while onboard. We usually pick something cheap as close to a year away as possible just so we have the onboard booking in place. We've never taken one of the cruises we booked onboard but have always been thankful we had it so when something good did come up (like MUSH) Ngaire just transfers it over and we're all set! Afterall, when you're not in the penalty stage you're not putting any $$ at risk.

Sorry I have lost track. Are Anthony & Paige with the WINO's? If not - where are they? Guess that is a stupid question when a cruise is called WINO.

Hey guys,
Not sure about the formal WINO cruise, but Anthony has created one for himself. To date, he has put away at least 1 1/2 bottles of wine at dinner. He's feeling pretty good right now as we type ha ha! I feel the mariner was better, at least at this point in time. Of course, I'm sure it also had a lot to do with the company we enjoyed aboard the mariner. We are having a great time, don't get me wrong, just enjoying a lot of rest & relaxation (much needed).
Hope you all are doing well! Sorry we missed you Linda. Hopefully, we can catch you on a future cruise. We also look forward to cruising with our other friends!

Paige, you are a HOOT, as all of us who have met you already know. Too bad we can't be there to join in on the Conga line I am sure you would lead. It does not surprise me that you are the first to post!!! Take care of Anthony for us! You are a real trouper to post from the sea (I THINK you are still at sea)

I think Anthony and Paige are missing the MINTERS. The people you are with do make the cruise I am convinced of that.
The one time Ken and I went off by ourselves we could not believe how much we missed having a group along. The staff were saying "isnt this wonderful you are having a real vacation" and we were thinking "no, we are lonely and miss our friends"
The social interaction is so much a part of cruising and although you can meet wonderful people on board it just takes longer and it is so nice to start off among friends.

Hey guys!
Yes, we are missing our fellow minters. And, of course, we are anticipating meeting the others who were unable to join us on mint. We look forward to sailing with you all soon. We tried Portofinos again tonight, and it was better. We are surprised we weren't asked to leave because we requested another red wine (they were pouring chianti). We drank two bottles between us. Anthony asked for amaretto after dinner. Talk about alcholic!!
The weather has been great, a little rain mist, nothing heavy. We spent the day riding around the island on a rented moped. Anthony is driving of course because I would probably pull out on the wrong side of the road!
Having a great time, but missing you all!!!

I, too, agree with the comment about the folks you travel with.
On our PG trip, the CC people (pre LCT) made our first week was probably the best cruise we have ever had. The second week, we made some nice friends, but it just didn't compare to the giggles we had week one.
This is why we have chosen MUSH next year. We have other places we would prefer to see, but we haven't been to Alaska and really enjoy a group experience. As nice as RSSC is, it is the people who complete the experience. That is why we even had a fantastic experience on our first cruise on HAL.

I've noticed we always drink more on cruises. After all, you have a designated driver and it's never your turn to be one. Cheers!!

OK I have to defend myself. I haven't been drinkng that much wine...maybe a bit more than usual but we are on vacation.
Weather has been great although cloudy today. We tooled around the island on our scooters again and had a great time.
Olivia, we saw where you are staying (The Reefs). What a lovely view and looks like a nice place. One warning, you have a darn long drive from the airport to the hotel. I am sure it will be pricey. Otherwise, you will love it!
Everything else is typical Radisson. Really great service for the most part although they are having trouble keepin my wine glass full! :)
As the crowd is MUCH older, we really are missing our friends. I agree with Ngaire and the others, it really is the people that make the cruise. We didn't realize how much fun the gropu was on MINT.
We move to St. George tomorrow and then a day at sea prior to Norfolk and reality. Take care and we will post again soon!

Did the room steward ever improve? If it wasn't for the group doing MUSH, I doubt we'd be doing Alaska again ourselves. While we love Alaska, we've done it twice already and would have preferred to go to other destinations. But the group is right and the timing is right and it's not too far away by flights so ... The group on MINT was SUCH a blast. :)

Masaki and Andi -
You both said it perfectly. We wouldn't do Alaska again (I have a long list of places to go first!) but for crusing with all of the LCT friends on MUSH!
Anthony and Paige - is there a waitress on board named Vanessa? She was our favorite on the Navigator last year - both cruises - Bermuda and New England/Canada. She was from South America but lived in Sweden.

Hello everyone!
Time for our after dinner check in. Of course, we downed at least 1 1/2 bottles of wine between the two of us tonight. We requested bananas foster for dessert. It wasn't what we expected. Only lukewarm bananas with caramel sauce drizzled over them. However, the chocolate covered strawberries were to die for (requested special also).
To answer your question Masaki, the room stewardess has gotten a little better. We returned today to find some clean clothes we had washed folded. So, we can't complain. We also received our society pins today. We weren't sure we were going to get them provided we are late in the cruise.
We spent the day riding around the island. We visited Crystal Caves, which was neat & also Devil's hole (not much there, a few sea turtles & you can fish with hookless lines, although we didn't catch anything).
We are having a great time. Of course, as we have said, it is a lot more laid back. We are definitely missing the company and service from the mariner.
Talk to you guys soon!

Paige, thanks for posting! I have looked on the map, and our hotel is located on the south shore, not quite so far as those dockyards, I hope. Anyway, we are set with a taxi. Glad you are having a great time! ANY cruise after MINT would be laid back. That, along with other group cruises like VOF, DDD, and others seem to attract the "younger ones" like you and Anthony. Nice thing about our MINT cruise is that age made absolutely no difference!
Masaki and Kathy, this is my third cruise to Alaska! I am only doing it because of the group, and because I want to introduce family members and a couple of friends to Radisson! We are going to have a great time!

Hey guys!
This is Anthony typing for a drunk Paige. Ngaire, you have created a MONSTER. The wait staff, because of Paige's many requests, knows our cabin number by heart. Twice she ordered crab legs, then it was chocolate covered strawberries, and then it was bananas foster. She tried to request a soup but luckily for the staff it was already on the menu. Things have been great today. just kind of took it easy, looked around a bit (all closed) and then just sat around.
We are on our way back to Norfolk and reality. I have about 25 patients Tues. afternoon. Far too many, but that is the price to pay for being away!
Paige here:
Also, Ngaire, Elda sends her greetings. We talked a while during the Seven Seas Society party. She is very nice. She also remembered the Matassa's. She also spoke of Tom acting in some plays while on the world cruise. Guess you could hit broadway Tom, ha ha!
Anyway, not a lot of excitement to report. Just a lot of R&R. Talk to you guys soon!
By the way, anyone going on the Navigator in the next 2-3 weeks, please private message me and I will give you our password for our remaining internet time (approximately 7 hours). I do not know what Anthony was thinking when he purchased 10 hours!!!!

Ah say hello to the lovely Elda for me. She is a very classy lady.
Eat hearty - those chocolate covered strawberries dont turn up on your kitchen table like they do on the cruise. Chocolate covered strawberries are up there with rack of lamb and dover sole in my book.

So good to hear from you two!! It sounds like you're having a great time! Keep ordering all that great stuff Paige....reality comes back waaaaay too soon!
Funny about Elda remembering Tom. Among other crazy things he did, he did the Jig at the St. Patrick's day party in the Horizon Lounge!  (He was dressed up like a Lepracon, it was hilarious and one crazy party!) He was actually very good and won "The Pot of Gold" which consisted of about 35 tokens so it was all worth it! Elda is so sweet!
Continue having a great time and ORDER AWAY PAIGE! You're so skinny, nothing to worry about! Oh how I love chocolate dipped strawberries!

Unless things are different on the Navigator, I don't see how you can do this. On the Mariner in July, the sign-in name required birthdate, cabin #, date of cruise, etc. so it appears that these offers can't be used. We gratefully accepted and really appreciated Marc's and Masaki's offer last year on Navigator, only half-used Marc's. Who says RSSC doesn't read these boards???

Anthony had the dover sole & it was wonderful. I had crab legs, which were great as always. I asked for chocolate strawberries tonight, they didn't have any made (last minute request). My gazpacho is on the menu for tomorrow, so the poor wait staff doesn't have to endure another report on cabin 714 with a special request, ha ha!
Marcie & Olivia, you guys are too nice. The only requirement on the internet was a log in code & password. So, if anyone is interested, let us know!
Things are calm on the seas tonight. A bit of lightning in the distance, nothing outstanding however. Hope you all have a good night & you will be hearing from us soon!

It worked for us too once Joanna but one time it didn't (sorry can't remember who gave us their passcode and pin but I think it was Greg, USAA or a screen name something like that). Paige you and Anthony are both so fun and adorable....live it up while you have a chance. The boys and the new home are soon awaiting! Reconsider MUSH...it has your name written all over it!

A LCT member graciously gave me her left-over time last summer on the Voyager & I was so greatful. Of course, I needed to purchase 5 more hours, but the computers could be very slow, especially in the fjords. I would name her, but hate to do that without permission. But she was a doll to do this for me & it worked fine.

Masaki gave me his leftover time, which I used up and then bought more time and used it on the next Navigator cruise I was on - and then I gave my leftover time to someone else for Navigator. So that time continued on 4 different cruises!. The sign in procedures are different than Mariner.

I'm sure you can pass along Internet time on the Navigator, we did last fall. The only thing to remember, they delete old logons and passwords every few weeks because the original users are long gone and the computer manager believes them no longer needed. I'm not sure if it's appropriate, but if you're passing an account along to someone else, you might let the manager know???

Margo,
I'll see if I can do that today. We are having terrible weather today.. Seas are about 15 - 20 feet as we head back to Norfolk. Paige is feeling it too. NOt p to her usual self and I am hoping the seas calm a bit before our last dinner. (They are supposed to).
Otherwise, everything has been good. We are sad for this to come to an end, but are ready to see the boys.
I better go check on Paige. Speak to you later. I brought many drugs including injectables, but she is trying to forego them because they will likely knock her out for the rest of the day.
