I, for one, do not want to answer that one!!! Judy's dinner was VERY economical, but that was about the only thing. Between the craps table, the V bar (nightclub) and the Venetian's $7.00 beers.......I don't want to know!!! I don't think I have ever paid $7 for a light, domestic beer!!!!!!!! It was insane. But, of course I would do it all over again. Love Vegas, would go again for a LCT weekend. Just may have to stay at the MGM or NYNY next time!! The hotel was incredible. The standard room was a beautiful suite, marble floors, double doors to the bathroom, seperate makeup/vanity area. I like the idea of a mini cruise, but I think the one Marc mentioned is somewhat expensive. Karen's on the right track with the Bahamas, we see very cheap offers in the Miami Herald's travel section. I'll check it on Sunday.

Great idea Kimmi, our paper usually has Bahamas specials but this past weekend there were none.

Karen...I've been thinking the Bahamas resort would be a great choice but Tom pointed out what an awful experience we had (quite a while ago) with a hotel that was suppose to be good - it was TERRIBLE! We actually flew home 5 days early!
Sometimes it doesn't pay to save money if you get my drift, so I'd love to pick somewhere that someone has tried recently.
Anyone been to the Bahamas lately - any advice? I'm not talking about elaborate - just clean with good service.

I just went to Hotwire to price Freeport vacations. I priced air and two days hotel 9/17-9/19. For Westin, 4.5 stars, I was given a price of $571 per person, no mention of food. The Wyndam was only 3 stars.
Only place that I know anyone has gone is Atlantis. Good rates from Florida during slow periods. They also have food packages. Not cheap. My step-sister and her family and my father and step mother are probably going back to Atlantis this summer.
If you are not into gambling, there are plenty of resorts in Florida we might have more information on.

Margo: I think you are right and if it seems too good to be true, price wise, it usually is - I always check Tripadvisor for their comments - I think you have to be careful in the Bahamas have heard horror stories from people here about resorts/hotels not being represented correctly. Joanna

I have been to Freeport and stayed at Our Lucaya, I think it's been renamed this year but it was fantastic. I don't really care where we end up as long as there is a beach :)

Karen...you've done so much work on this and I feel like we are the Monday morning quarterbacks...maybe we need to decide how price driven we are and Marc makes a good point, if we don't care about the casino, we don't need to leave the USA - there are plenty of good beaches here for you to choose from.
Gosh, I live 10 minutes from the beach - let's see, I've got a couple of guest rooms - now I've got to work on the rates - can't promise gourmet food though.

I forgot about Our Lucaya, I had a friend who stayed there and was happy with it. Maybe that should move ahead of the Royal Oasis. We also had friends that stayed at Atlantis, then across the street(forgot the name), you have access to all of the amenities of Atlantis, but a cheaper property. I'll try to find the name. I guess I keep going with Karen's idea b/c I also would love to have a great pool or beach. Everyone could stay at my house, but we're almost a half hour from the beach. Joanna's right across the street! Maybe Karen could bring her RV and we could all camp on Joanna's lawn

This is the place I priced out on hotwire. $571 pp including air from Orlando. Don't think that included food.

Well I have a beach, deserted, across the street and small pool in backyard - lousy cooking on premises but very good drinks! Have you all decided on a date? I am getting confused with west vs east dates - Florida does have some great beaches both on east and west coasts. Joanna

Margo, I didn't see your post, you have a point about staying in the US. I suppose we just need to find a great property on the beach. How about that plantation (or whatever it is) on Sanibel/Captiva island on the west side? I'm just throwing out places. HH is great, Charleston, too. Naples has some beautiful hotels, Atlantic City...... it will be Sept. before we even decide at this rate!! I am staying out of it now, I will just vote when you guys decide <img border="0" alt="[jump]" title="" src="graemlins/jumpjoy.gif" />

Please excuse me for butting in here but have you considered Myrtle Beach, SC or Virginia Beach? Would those be half way between the north and south folks? I'm not familiar with the areas but just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. Checking on Tripadvisor, it appears that Mrytle Beach may have some nice resorts.

Vickie...the more the merrier - we seem to be totally confused about what we want to do - we've got weekend plans and dinner plans - I think the west coast may be rubbing off on us!
We may have to form "chapters" of LCT - hold regional meetings and then decide on the ultimate site!

Hi
I will chime in on some of the Vegas costs:
Room $159 (not including tax) per night, standard suite. Dinner at Carluccio's -$36 per couple (yes!!!) Dinner at Mon Ami Gabi ($106 per couple)
Air, gas for driving, breakfasts, lunches, gambling, drinking, and shows, of course, were not included (damn!).
Denise
Retired and loving it!

Karen....The hotel looks great. I think the beach is about 3 block away - based on the map on the website. If we go in the fall it may not be beach weather. Just a thought.

I know I said I was staying out of it, but I can't help myself. Being from that area and spending every summer there......Margo is right Oct. or end of Sept. will be cool. I've actually stayed at that Rad., it's a big convention center. Neg-not on the beach, not much going on there. There are a zillion hotels on the beach, but don't know of another Rad that's directly on the bch. Pos-Goldpoints!!!!!! Ok, so I'm sure that didn't help......I will be quiet now.

Sorry to throw another option into the mix here. How about Philadelphia? The Park Hyatt, great hotel, there usually has weekend packages for two nights including parking for $199. Location is great, with all the upscale Walnut Street shopping right outside the hotel. For budget minded shoppers, Franklin Mills (great outlet mall) is about a 25 min drive.

The Park Hyatt is right in Rittenhouse Square, which really is the "heart" of Philadelphia. I'm a VIP at Morton's and can get us a boardroom there if that's of interest to anyone. Unlike the recent Mon Ami Gabi fiasco, there isn't a huge up-front deposit required.

The last time I was in Philadelphia - about 4 years ago - in June - on the day I took the downtown trolley tour of the city it was 107 degrees. Do you all consider this cold?

Oh Betty, I don't think we ever have 107 degrees in Florida. Of course, if you could PROMISE warm weather in October in Philadelpia I still don't think I could convince Tom to believe it.

Margo, I knew I liked Tom! I don't go above the Sarasota county line!! Anything east/west or south - Okay, but north - forget about it!!
And you, my sweet belle, as a loyal and faithful member of the harem are strictly forbidden to support any move north to Philadelphia!! I'd hate to have to sick Joanna on you, but disobience sometimes warrants strong measures!! Marty

Marty...I need your help. We must convene a meeting of the west coast (of Florida) chapter of your harem, et al.
Somehow I'm sure we could then generate the necessary momentum needed to organize the EAST COAST get-together.
Or, we could just do dinner - the heck with all of this debate! Have you ever been to JRyans?

Margo, I know you support Tom's and my position that north is bad. It is obviously not necessary to threaten you with Joanna as your own cool and inimitable logic would drive you to the self-evident conclustion that Philadelphia is a bad idea any time of the year. Betty's suggestion, although interesting, is unacceptable. I know for a fact that they have cold spells in the middle of summer in Philadelphia. Besides, who would want to visit a place where the "Iggles" choked massively? Certainly not warranting any visit from the higher ups until they produce a championship team!! Marty (unlike Lawrence, I don't try to be good at all!)

My dear Mr Knight:
If you lived in Houston, during the summer you would kill for just a semi-cool day or even with one with humidity below 75%. Let it be 100. just lower the humidity. It will never happen.

Marty...we just returned from dinner at JRyans on 41 (South) - it's our "neighborhood bar".
We must find a good night to gather and share food, wine and cruise stories.
We are not TOO booked right now - so if you want to pick a day that's good for you - let me know. It would be so fun to meet you, Erika, Grechen and George...the beginning of the east coast gathering...maybe we'll make Joanna jealous enough to come over to our coast!
