WE have a booking on hold until Monday for this LAX LAX Oceana cruise aboard the Regatta.
Would like to know if anyone else is signed up or looking at this cruise.

Noticed on their web site almost all the cabins are "wait list" except A- 2 & A-3

Well we had Hunter book this cruise yesterday.
Sure wish someone from LCT was going with us.

Received our "beat up" envelope from Oceana yesterday in a sealed plastic from FedEx.
Neat preprinted luggage tags in there as well as information on the cruise. Not sure there were boarding passes.

We sailed on Oceania and liked it very much. With Jacque Pepin & his daughter heading up the dining program, the food is wonderful - actually better than Regent we thought. The ships are similar in size (around 700) and the service is great. Have a wonderful time!

Thank you for the positive encouragement. Done lots of homework, and probably would have tried Oceania sooner, except I just find trying to figure what costs are, what is included, etc. almost impossible for me.
We have done NCL, Princess, once, and don't plan on returning, but had no problem with understanding them.

Well got onboard the ship at 11:30 am Sept 9th. Found out we would not be going to Mexico as our 1st stop.
Instead we stayed in San Pedro berth 93 the next day because of the hurricane. Suppose to leave at 6 pm the 10th.
Engine problems got us out at 9:30 pm, but it is a sea day. We were suppose to receive 2 each free tours on this cruise.
Both the ones we picked got canceled. They gave us $200 each OBC. Then we decided to do something in SFO the 2nd day
which cost us $99 each.
Really like the Regatta's public areas. Very comforting décor, and it just came out of a 2 week dry dock to replace carpeting and
reupholster lots of chairs.
Ngaire had warned us a few years ago about the cabins being rather small on the older ships. So we upgraded to a A-2 cabin thinking that would be enough. Little shock when we opened the door. Bedroom area is fine. It is just the bathroom is extremely small, and so is the very small closet.
Hard to get use to having to give your key card for cocktails all the time. Right when we got on I went to reception and did the upgraded liquor package. Jan decided to stick with the basic package that was included on this cruise. Beer or wine with lunch or dinner. So that has already been an issue with cocktail hour, and she may want a Grey Goose, or wine before dinner.
We have had two dinners so far. Both we give a 3 out of 5, and feel Regent is better, but will have an open mind.
Went to the cruise destination program this morning. Very interesting, but long. Oceania does have lots of interesting cruises, and
have many that make perfect back- to back, or even back- to- back- to-back cruises.

Thanks for the update Jim. Tom and I have never been on Oceania before. I guess since we discovered Regent, we haven't wandered far (except some Silver Sea thrown in for expedition cruises). Thanks for keeping us in the loop. ENJOY your cruise.

The newer Oceania ships are much nicer than the older ones but the cabins on the Nautica are definitely not like Regent cabins. I am sure you will still have a nice time onboard. ALWAYS nice to be on the ocean. Keep us informed on how it all works out for you.

Did find out that the Regatta was the former R-2 on Renaissance line. Pretty sure it was the R ship we were suppose to sail on in Tahiti before the company went under and we were fortunate to find Brown & Keene Travel and I called Ngaire and booked a cruise on the Paul Gauguin
for 5 couples.
This evening we are meeting Tim & Miriam at Pier 39 Fog Harbor Restaurant for dinner at 6 pm. They are driving up from Los Gatos.
Wonderful day in SFO today. Mostly sunny, but Golden Gate Bridge is pretty foggy.

At sea today from Eureka CA to Ensenada MX and a technical stop there at 7 to 9 pm tomorrow.
Mixed emotions on Oceania. Public places like Horizon Lounge, ( Observation Lounge on Regent), is fantastic.
Deck 4 Reception & destination very comfortable furniture, and dark earth tone colors. Polo Club also very nice colors.
Food: Well that is where we are extremely disappointed. From Grand Dining room to both specialty restaurants are way below what
we expected. On a scale of 1 to 5 they have been a 2 or 3 every time. Not even close to Regent.
Comments have always been how wonderful Oceania is, so we were excited to try them. Sorry. Not going to happen from us.
OK enough negative comments. Heck we are sailing and suppose to have wonderful temperatures for our sea day.

Well we got home this afternoon. I still give the cruise a 3 out of 5. Jan gives it a 4 out of 5.
Must say out last two nights having dinner in the Grand Dining room was not to bad.
Defiantly realize for me, that I needed to upgrade the liquor package, which I did. The one they offer you is only beer & wine and only at lunch and dinner.
Was not Oceania's fault, but because of the hurricane, this turned into a cruising cruise with hardly any ports of call.
Also a little surprised at what tours cost. A few short ones for around $69 to $99 dollars and longer ones from $199 to $499 per person!
Would I cruise on Oceania again? Probably, with the understanding that it would be on a newer ship, upgrade the cabin, pay the extra liquor fee, pay the price of excursions, pay extra for Business Class
and end up at the same price it costs to go on Regent, and not have to keep showing the darn card all the time.
