Jason Montague held a Town Hall Meeting on the Mariner and a lot of subjects were covered. Rather than add this to the World Cruise thread I thought a new thread is appropriate for comments and discussions around the LCT Realm.

Jason Montague held a Town Hall meeting at 10am today (2-11) on our 1st sea day to Miami. He went over a few items before the Q&A and answered quite a few questions, but none were confrontational.

Jason mentioned the difficulty faced by the Crystal guests and welcomed them to Regent. One of them spoke up and praised Regent for taking them on and how well they were received by both crew and guests. I think we’ll have several converts. He said the ships were too old and in the wrong configuration for Regent to consider them. The expedition ship, which cost over $500 million to build, can’t make money with only 200 guests. Regent is not in the expedition business and is exclusively an ocean going line so that ship isn’t even in consideration.

World cruises were discussed and what the future is for them. The WC will not switch to the Voyager. Since the 23 & 24 cruises sold out too quickly for many to make a booking, future ones will open the bookings in stages and by loyalty tier level. Someone asked when segments would open and Jason said there are no segments on the WC anymore. The 2025 WC may start with a circumnavigation of South America, go through French Polynesia, around NZ & Australia, up into Asia, over to Alaska and end in SF. There will be an optional extra segment back to Miami.

The capacity on all the ships has been reduced to add more crew, so the Mariner is about 680 instead of 700 and the rest of the fleet has done the same. Future bookings are at a historic high, they are returning to 100% capacity and Regent expects to be in the black by the 4th quarter.

Currently, masks will be optional on board as of March 1. However, the CDC may screw that up. The cruise industry is the ONLY industry controlled by the CDC and it’s done unfairly. The cruise industry group is actively working with the CDC to limit the damage to cruising and meetings go on daily. Unfortunately they have too large a grip on the industry, so things can change daily. One new rule that will probably hold is that “fully vaccinated” means 2 shots plus a booster at least 5 months after the 2nd shot and ships have to have 95% of both crew & guests “fully vaccinated to make masks optional.

The lousy web site was discussed and it’s a work in progress. A new site with user friendly excursion booking was supposed to be in place in 2020, but Covid set that back. That was a low priority during the shutdown and is starting up again and will hopefully be operational end of 22 or early 23.

The 4th segment of our “New World” cruise is supposed to go up the Amazon, but they can’t get any yes or no from Brazil. If Brazil is out, opening up new areas such as Bermuda or snowed in East Coast is too difficult to arrange so it would be again circling around the Caribbean.

Jim, many thanks! I like the initial plans for WC2025 and that it would open by tier (I assume past WCers have highest priority). Unfortunate that NCLH (including Regent) will still "opt-in" to these archaic CDC "rules."

Jim, on Mariner, which ten cabins are no longer passenger cabins? Doesn't seen like any natural choices except Deck 7 forward and those are the best cabins on the ship. Deck 10 forward just behind the officer cabins works but those are larger cabins. Or, did they just use one here or there spreading out the crew amongst the passengers?

Marc, It wasn't clear about the tiers. I think it starts with Commodore & Diamond and then goes downward and past WC has precedent within each tier.
NCLH would "opt-in" to the archaic CDC rules primarily in order to dock in US ports - that's the main big stick against cruise lines.
I think the extra crew cabins are at the back of deck 7 where entertainers etc stay.

Good reporting Jim. I am all in favor of requiring all passengers and crew to be fully vaccinated. Plans for 2025 World cruise look nice.

Jim, those are the only ten Cat H cabins on the ship; is Regent going to reclassify some of the Cat G as H or just not sell H anymore? I checked a late 2023 cruise and I could still book Cat H cabins on Mariner; no reclassification.

Marc, They are all on deck 7, some near the casino and some a bit forward. They won't show up as any Cat and have 4 digit room numbers not starting with 7.
