This was reported on October 9, 2020 on the Crystal Endeavor. We are due to sail in September 28, 2021 so this certainly increases the chances the ship will be ready. It is nice to know the ship is continuing to be built now.
MV Werften Gets EUR 193M Loan to Complete Crystal Endeavor Marinelink October 9, 2020Credit: MV Werften Credit: MV Werften
German shipbuilder MV Werften has said it has secured a 193 million euro loan from the German government to complete the new polar class luxury expedition ship Crystal Endeavor and to keep the shipyard in operation till March 2021.
As reported back in April, Genting's Crystal Cruises announced the Crystal Endeavor's launch would be delayed due to the temporary closure of the MV Werften shipyards during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 164-meter, 20,000-gross-ton Crystal Endeavor was at the time berthed in MV Werften's Stralsund yard for final outfitting and was due to enter service in August before the shipbuilder was hit by the pandemic outbreak, delaying the works on the ship and causing Crystal Endeavor's scheduled itineraries to be delayed as well.
Commenting on the 193 million euro loan, MV Werften said Friday: "MV Werften and all its employees are very appreciative of the support of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Federal authorities in receiving this support. All the funds from the loans will be used in Germany for MV Werftern´s shipyards."
Genting Hong Kong owns both Crystal Cruises and MV Werften.

Ngaire, this was reported today; does it change anything?
Genting Hong Kong Limited (Continued into Bermuda with limited liability) (Stock Code: 678) TERMINATION OF MAJOR TRANSACTIONS IN RELATION TO THE SALE AND LEASEBACK OF CRYSTAL ENDEAVOR AND THE PROVISION OF A SUBORDINATED LOAN Reference is made to the announcement of the Company dated 23 December 2019 and the circular of the Company dated 21 February 2020 (the “Circular”) in relation to the Disposal and the Subordinated Loan. Capitalised terms used herein shall have the same meanings as those defined in the Circular unless otherwise stated. In view of the substantial delay in construction and delivery of the Vessel due to the impact of COVID-19 as well as the worldwide freeze of cruise operations and the uncertainty in relation to new constraints to allow the operations to resume, on 22 December 2020, the Purchaser and the Seller (an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company) mutually agreed and entered into a termination agreement (the “Termination Agreement”) to terminate the Acquisition Contract and Subordinated Loan Agreement. Pursuant to the Termination Agreement, the Acquisition Contract and Subordinated Loan Agreement were terminated with retrospective effect from 1 January 2020. Further, the parties agreed that the First Instalment to be refunded to the Purchaser under the Acquisition Contract shall be set off against the Subordinated Loan to be repaid to the Seller under the Subordinated Loan Agreement. As such, no fund transfer has occurred between the parties consequential upon termination of the Acquisition Contract and Subordinated Loan Agreement. The parties to the Subordinated Loan Agreement further acknowledged that the drawdowns under the Subordinated Loan Agreement shall be deemed not to have occurred, the Seller (being the subordinated lender) waiving its rights of payments of any interest under the Subordinated Loan in consideration for the termination of the Transaction, with no other indemnity of any kind. Each of the parties to the Termination Agreement is released and discharged from its obligation and liabilities by virtue of or in relation to the Acquisition Contract and Subordinated Loan Agreement and neither party shall have any claims against the other party. The Board considers that the terms of the Termination Agreement are fair and reasonable and in the interest of the Company and its shareholders as a whole.

I have absolutely no idea what that means. You would understand that far better than I would. What do you think it means?

Ngaire, neither do I; overnight someone posted a bit of an explanation on the Crystal CC board saying that Genting probably did this as the ship is not sailing soon so it made more sense to buyout the purchaser giving them flexibility to either enter into another sale and leaseback arrangement or sell the unfinished or finished hull. When I first read this I thought it may impact finishing date for Endeavor so thought you might have more insight.
Hopefully we all get sailing soon.

Time will tell. It did sound like moving financing and options around to their financial advantage for whatever may develop but it also sounds like they are still in the process of working on the ship.

Well one piece of good news is that we got an advisory with all the arrival and departure times for the ports have been added to the itinerary. Doubt they would be working on this if they knew the ship would not be ready in time.

Last time I looked there weren’t really any shore excursions to look at. Did they add anything along those lines?

We were originally on Endeavor but cancelled and transferred our deposit to the B2B Crystal riverboat cruises. I disputed the charges on our (2 different Chase Sapphire cards) and we got a credit. YEA ! I've since cancelled one of the two Chase cards. One of the Crystal charges was on the cancelled card so Chase is going to mail us a check.
Between cancelled flights and cruises, it's keeping me busy keeping track of this. Hopefully others who may have disputed charges have good luck too. I had some charges that were too old to dispute. That may be when Crystal needs to kick in with refunds.

We cancelled Endeavor and our refund posted to Amex this morning. Yay!
We were also booked on the cancelled river cruise but paid that deposit on Visa so as predicted we are still waiting for that to show up. Endeavor deposit was 3x the amount of the other so I’m not unhappy that it went this way.
Agree with Marcie, almost a full time occupation keeping track of the money/ credits......I have a large folder sadly labeled “cancelled trips” I think it’s time to turn the page and get that big folder of upcoming trips going! —————- Helen

Not to worry Jim I have 34 people still booked on the Endeavor. Still a nice sized group for a ship with a maximum capacity of 200 people.

Listened to a podcast from Crystal President today. He addressed the newly released Bahama cruises but most importantly he addressed the issue of outstanding refunds and the Crystal Endeavor.
REFUNDS: He said they are starting refunds now and by the end of April they expect to have 85% of refunds processed and by the end of May 95% of refunds processed. Said of course it is a moving target with additional cancellations still taking place. We shall see, but I sure hope that this will indeed start happening. We had one very long outstanding refund processed this week. Many of you are waiting for refunds so if you get a refund please post here so we know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
CRYSTAL ENDEAVOR: The first technical sea trial the ship exceeded expectations. There will be more sea trials and finish out work taking place and anticipate the ship would be ready for full service by the end of July. However, they have to see what happens with which countries will allow cruise ships and also get the ship ready with staff and logistics to begin cruising. On their web the Endeavor shows the first cruise starting on September 15 followed by the cruise we have booked on September 28th. I do not think they will start any earlier than that but the odds are reasonably good that the ship will make the September 15 start date. All this depends on many factors as we all know but at least they were sensible in not trying to start any earlier.

Still waiting on my refunds. George says if they don’t come soon, he is going to sue Crystal. Anyone interested in a class action suit? We did get our money from Chase that we were able to dispute, but Crystal still owes me a big chunk of money, and I need it for my kitchen remodel ( since we haven’t been able to cruise).

Well i just booked the Crystal Serenity Bahama 7 day sailing Nassau to Nassau on July 24, 2021. Just booked at regular passenger rates as the rates are about the same as the TA rate. We did go on Crystal about 15 years ago on a short fam trip on the Crystal Harmony that has since been sold. Got nonstop flight from DFW with miles.
We just decided (a) cant wait to step on ship again (b) good for me to be updated on what the Crystal Ocean ships are like. We love their river cruises and tried the Crystal Esprit which we really liked. They wont do groups on the Esprit it only holds 62 people. Lots of South African crew.

I just picked that date as it was between my return from the safari and my departure for the Galapagos. I am not really a beach person but they are beautiful to look at for a while. Key for me is experiencing a Crystal Ocean ship and hopefully the food is as good as we have experienced on the river cruises and the yacht.

We're doing the July 24 & July 31 sailings on the Serenity. I haven't been on a Crystal ocean cruise since 2000 so it will be interesting to see how they are nowadays.

Ngaire, have you given up on Regent? Lots of Silversea and now Crystal cruises in your future and no mention of Regent. With all the recent decisions by the various cruise lines I can understand.

Great Jim and Pat look forward to sailing with you both. Been way too long.
Marc, I had Regent booked in the first part of 2021. But of course all of those have been cancelled. Regent is ALWAYS my first choice. I am really missing cruising particularly with Regent. Regent does not offer River Cruises or Expedition Ships so for those I have to go to other cruise lines. To date Silversea is my first choice for expedition cruising.
Sadly I have only two Regent trips still in my future for 2021. 10.30.21 Voyager Abu Dhabi to Cape Town 12.20.21 Explorer Sydney to Auckland.
I have always had a thirst for knowledge of all the different products. Whenever possible I will try and at least tour new ships that I believe would suit our clients. Flown to many a port just to tour a ship.
This Bahamas cruise was an easy decision.
Not been on a Crystal Ocean Voyage except the old Harmony many years ago. All guests vaccinated Super pricing Can go ashore independently Crystal River and Yacht cruises have had great food and I am missing the cruise ship dining experience
Just the thought of going on a cruise ship in JULY has me very happy, be even happier if it was Regent.

From Genting Hong Kong unaudited preliminary annual report released today:
"On 3 July 2021, Crystal Cruises’ Crystal Serenity is poised to resume sailing with the New Close-to-Home Bahamas Escapes from Nassau and Bimini. With her new Bahamas Escapes cruises, Crystal Serenity becomes the first Crystal Cruises’ ship to homeport in The Bahamas since the cruise industry’s voluntary halt in operations almost a year ago. The maiden voyages of Crystal Endeavor and the resumption of Crystal Symphony itineraries will be announced in April, 2021."
Will be interesting to see what is announced in April.

So Crystal has just announced sailings on the Crystal Endeavor around Iceland (open for vaccinated tourists) for July - August 2021. So I guess our September Endeavor cruise will be a go as far as the ship is concerned. Lets hope all the ports are open by then.

They are trickling in Helen and they started taking $$ so hopefully yours will come soon.
The deposits on the new sailings are going into a separate account not to be used for operating expenses. Therefore if anyone cancels the refunds will be very prompt.

Jim and I are beginning to look at shore excursions for this cruise (yippee!). Does anyone have any interest in putting together a group of wine tasting visits when we are in Bordeaux? Maybe one of the days we could do a wine pairing lunch when at a vineyard. There are no descriptions of the tours hosted by the ship posted yet.
