I sure hope you're right Ngaire. I'm trying to be optimistic on our B2B as both are paid in full. We also have all our air booked. Fingers crossed and prayers πŸ™πŸ» that this will work out for all of us.

We will be on one of the earliest Crystal River sailings as they are not planning on starting up until 26 March. Here is their new protocols for river cruises:

https://www.crystalcruises.com/crystal-clean-river

Will we all be considered part of a single travel party? If not, won't be able to dine together and if we dance we need to be six feet apart.

The way I read this you have to dance 6 feet from other couples. So, Marc, there will be no Hokey Pokey or Conga lines. Otherwise isn’t it up to us to declare who is in our travel party? I think this just means no table sharing with random strangers.

Look at these precruise requirements:

Quote
Your promise to us is your Declaration of Safety via Crystal's secure, online portal, Priority Check-In and Planning Center (PCPC). When you sign your Declaration of Safety, you're giving us a true picture of your health and telling Crystal exactly what you need to travel in confidence and safety.

New: Guests will be required to purchase travel insurance (via Crystal or third party)
New: Guests to complete an online signature form acknowledging that a mandatory COVID-19 test with negative results will be required prior to their departure to their cruise; a printed copy of the negative result must be presented at check-in and failure to comply will result in denial of boarding
New: Guests’ travel and contact information will now be mandatory in Crystal’s Priority Check-In & Planning Center (PCPC) before cruise documents will be issued
Updated: Guests will check in online and complete a health questionnaire 48 hours prior to their departure to their cruise
Updated: Guests will receive assigned staggered arrival times to minimize congestion; arrival times will be printed on travel documents

I will be in Budapest six days before the cruise; I wonder how I am going to get my virus test. In addition, they are now requiring travel insurance; haven't bought insurance for this trip as we are never farther than 100 meters from shore and we have overseas medical.

Hmmmm....wonder how this will work for those of us on the B2B on 2 different ships? In-between the 2 cruises some are going to Krakow, some going to Prague ,and others going to Budapest. Does this mean we need TWO negative tests, one for boarding in AMS and one for boarding in Budapest?

Do not know if the test would be required to board the second ship but I think it may well be. It is 6 months away and this may all be more relaxed by then. Getting covid tests should not be too difficult if required. All the places we are going have medical facilities and the ability to do covid tests. I can our van in Krakow making a stop at a medical facility during a tour so we can all get them at the same time.

Marc zero band insurance may work I imagine it is more about getting you HOME than anything else. Cancellation and lost baggage type coverage is not their concern. That is a good question. The cruise line or travel insurance companies may know the answer to that. I will see if I can get an answer - sending in that question right now.

Reading even more of the Crystal protocols, I see that there will be no more shuttles or walking around town to get a drink or something to eat; you have to be on a Crystal tour:

Quote
New: Guests will only be permitted to disembark the ship in port if participating in Crystal’s shoreside activities or excursions to ensure consistent health protocols; guests who do not comply will not be permitted to re-board the ship

So much for our stop for schnitzel in Vienna. waah

Since they are not doing any river cruises until 26 March; why did they need to put these out six months in advance? Hopefully things better by then, but it would seem silly to put these protocols out and never use them.

WOW. They don't say how close to embarkation you need to have the test, at least I didn't see that, but usually you don't get the results for 3 or 4 days if you are lucky, some places its longer. The rapid 2 hour test will not work if an exposure is less than 72 hours, or so we were told when we had an exposure over Labor Day weekend and found out on Monday and immediately went in for testing, and the Doctor said it was too soon for the rapid test and did the regular one and we got our results on Thursday The airlines may also require some kind of proof as well, wonder if that will be sufficient or not. A lot to think about and consider.

I had hernia surgery and to be tested first. I got both the nose swab and the antibodies test (blood) results back in 15 minutes. The antibodies test has two results periods. One sooner after exposure and one much later. That is what we were told. Information is all over the place on the testing. I guess depending on the type tests you take.

Not being able to do things on your own on a cruise is frustrating but understandable. That has been on every list of protocols – by staying on the ship and on tours together you are isolating yourselves in a giant bubble. Go off and do things on your own think how many people a ship full of people would come in contact in at each port. Makes sense really. This will slacken up when the vaccine comes and the cases drop.

All the lines are putting out their protocols so really every line has to do it. It will be a different experience. But as long as we can eat and sit together in our bubble, not wearing a mask ALL of the time. Able to get off the boat albeit on a organized tour we will still all enjoy the beginning of normalcy. These protocols will change with the vaccine and numbers of cases dropping. We will always value what we took so much for granted.

I am now always washing my hands and I think that is a behaviour that most of us have now. For overall health that is a very good thing. Our ships and restaurants will change, as that cleanliness aspect will remain, again a good thing. Be interesting to see if there is a drop in the flu season with all the changes in our daily lives.

All these requirements are not looking good for us. We are planning to arrive in Amsterdam 5 days precruise. And we never do trip insurance. I am going to hold tight for now, as I think the cruise likely won’t happen anyway. But this is not looking good.

Rachel, why the negativity; this is still more than six months out. I am glad it is not a Christmas Markets cruise with those restrictions, that is a non-starter. I still haven't booked driver and guide yet for our time in Hungary so maybe I have an inkling you might be right. Unfortunately, unless Crystal goes bankrupt (not likely) I don't think we will learn anything more for at least three months.

Marc

No Crystal ball but I feel these will go and probably be my first trips for 2021.

We went ahead yesterday and purchased air and hotels covering both cruises and the time in-between. We did everything refundable and it felt good to make the bookings. No rush to do those types of things there will be air and hotel reservations available. Cancelling is a pain but we just wanted to "get it done" and I do not anticipate cancelling these cruises.

Really trying hard not to be negative, Marc, but just realistic. We do have our air and precruise hotel booked, but my gut feeling is the cruise won’t go.

If it doesn’t, and Europe will allow people from the US in, which is a huge unknown at this time, we still plan on going as we are planning to visit friends pre cruise. But that said, I now have 2 grandchildren due on April 17 (different parents, not twins),.

Questionβ€”would the trip insurance included with our Chase or Am Ex card be enough to satisfy Crystal? Our health insurance already provides international coverage.

I asked for more details on what type of insurance was required. This was the response.

"Unfortunately we do not have all the answers on the insurance required yet. There is still a meeting with the legal department and Allianz. The question about whether they will need full coverage for everything or partial coverage has not been answered. I will update you as soon as we have the official answer."

The representative from Crystal is VERY GOOD and as soon she knows she will contact me and I will post the situation. We will also send out an email to everyone who has a Crystal cruise that will be affected.

Marcie, please remove Arlene and me from the roll call. We couldn't live with the protocols and don't anticipate they would change before cancellation penalty kicks in as first river cruise is not until 26 March. Could not imagine going to Vienna and not getting schnitzel at FiglmΓΌller.

So sorry to hear this, Marc! I miss you and Arlene! I hate what this Virus has done to my wide world of travel friends! But I want to stay safe. I guess I’d rather be in a bubble for this one, considering what’s going on in Europe now. Please reconsider!

All rests on the vaccine. Hopefully it will successful with the earlier predictions not the later predictions. Good thing we have up to 60 days before to make a decision without any penalty. We should know a lot more by then.

The news is out that the Crystal April River Cruises are being cancelled.

100% Refund
FFC for 100% and 15% bonus FCC
Price Match for a similar cruise

I am working on something with Crystal for those on both the Tulip and Danube cruise. Nothing may come of this but it is worth trying. I will be in touch by email with details if this comes through and also to work with everyone on the options they want to select.

With the two vaccines out and J&J close behind I had hopes that this may still go.

Very disappointing, but I expected as much. Conference call today with the health system I work for (largest in Oklahoma). Estimated time for herd immunity to be achieved is May at the earliest. And that is if the majority of people take the vaccine. I doubt travel restrictions will be loosened anytime soon. The vaccine isn't even available at all in the EU yet.

We have flights made, Hotel reservations made. This is a bummer.
What if they could change us do the same cruise at a later date?
Like June or July?

Posting a response here as others may want to know the same thing you are asking.

Yes the cancellation offer has a "price match" option. Means you select a different sailing and they give you the price you paid for the sailing in April. You just have to pick a date and then I can check if they will match the price on that particular sailing. That Danube trip had excellent pricing as they moved us from the Mozart to the Mahler with a discount and some upgrades. Same to waste that price point. As I mentioned I am also working on another option in 2022 but odds are the wont approve it. Plus you may prefer to go in 2021.

Still not received the "official word" but if you want to check departures and pick the cruise you have in mind I can work on that as soon as it all becomes official.

I am sending out an email before the end of the day on a REALLY great offer from Crystal. Even better than the price match to the 2021 Mahler price but restricted to one sailing the July 31st, 2022 Vilshofen to Budapest cruise. Right port to do a pre cruise to Prague.

Last email that went out some did not get so if it does not turn up in your email by tomorrow let me know. We have to send emails out through Signatures so never know how quickly it will be sent.

A SECOND EMAIL WILL BE COMING MARKED "UPDATED" THE FIRST ONE ADDED COLOR CHANGED FONT SIZE AND A LINK TO CRYSTAL CAME OUT HUGE THAT MADE IT HARD TO READ.

The letters from Crystal with the other options should also come out shortly.

The ROLLOVER or CANCELLATION must be made by January 8, 2021. I would not wait to the last minute we need to be sure these are completed and confirmation received of your decision or the FCC will be processed. The sooner the better. That pricing on the new cruise is really outstanding.

The ROLLOVER or CANCELLATION decision needs to be made before January 1 or I think they will issue FCC's that you do not want. Sooner the better to get the cancellation requested and confirmation received.

Well we cancelled our hotel reservations. Ngaire is cancelling the cruise
and when we tried to cancel our flights, United Airlines denied our request.
Read all the directions, attached the Crystal letter of cruise cancelled.
Said they would respond in 7 days and it was less than 24 hours.
Have a year to use the credit.
this is a bunch of S**t if you ask me.

Jim, we've got the same situation.

We got a UAL voucher back in March, used it (plus added a little more $) to pay for our B2B riverboat cruises , RT to Amsterdam and home from Munich. It was so far off, we assumed 13 months later it would be a go. They won't let us get $ back....just MORE FFC. We already have Alaska Air and AA FFC for cancelled trips. It's frustrating.

I haven't done anything with our UA flights yet. I'm hoping our flight(s) are cancelled or there's a 2 hour time change. Even that may not work since most of our UA ticket price$ were rolled over using original FCC from March' 2020.

Lord give me patience and hope we live long enough to use this FCC we've accumulated.
I'm thinking I should become a discount ticket broker booking flights for others at a discount using up all our FFC on 3 airlines.

Ken handles all our air and he certainly has had his challenges this year we had SO MUCH booked. We usually use miles and that helps. He has a massive spreadsheet on all the air and hotels we had booked for 2021. So ready to see the end of this virus and a return to how "it used to be".

We have the same situation with AA from our rescheduled/canceled trip to Hawaii. All we can hope now is that we might be able to reschedule it in 2021 and use it up.

Hopefully, today may have been my lucky day!

I've been checking United website praying for cancelled flights (ours) or more than a 2 hour change of flight times...every day, nothing. Part of these flight(s) booked in June 2020 was using a previous $ voucher issued in April.

When I checked the website this morning there was a blue box saying change of flights and I could CANCEL, the magic words. I was afraid to do it on line and mess it up so I called, talked to an agent . I read the message word for word in the blue box and was able to cancel. She put me on hold to talk to a supervisor who approved it. We're getting a credit back to our credit card (including the $ voucher credit) within 14 days. I received a confirmation email verifying. I'll believe it when I see the credit on our credit card.

It's weird because 7 hours later, I went on the UAL website pretending I was looking for a flight to AMS and a return flight back from MUC. Our exact flights, exact dates, departure/ arrival time show up as bookable.

Don't give up. Hopefully, one airline down, 2 to go.

Good news I heard today from two sources that the refund for the April river cruises hit their credit cards TODAY. Not on my card yet. But most likely we will all be receiving refunds in the next week if you have not received it yet.

I am pleasantly surprised and I do not even have all the cancelled invoices back yet! Of course now those cancelled invoices are not really necessary.
