Who knew where this was going when I posted six weeks ago. Sorry for the negativity at the start.

Marc,

The Regent emails posted on Cruise Critic, clearly state that the fever check only applies to embarkation in Hong Kong. The blanket prohibition is for those passengers who have been in China within 30 days of their embarkation date. Those passengers affected by the 30 day prohibition, will get a full refund although I am not sure what will happen with independently booked airfare and hotels.

Since body temperature tends to rise in the afternoon, if I were embarking in Hong Kong, I would get to the ship as early as possible. I’m not sure Regent has thought about the details of the fever prohibition as thoroughly as it should.

Dave, thanks. I agree to get to ship early and have an ice pack under your ball cap. At least I don't have to worry as I will be embarking in Miami.

Regent is sure lucky that they have no Chinese mainland ports this year; minimizes impact. Oceania not so lucky. Thousands have died in USA from flu this season (and I am sure a lot more have died from flu in China) but we are ruining the world economy over a virus that has killed just a few hundred with a Ro that doesn't look to be above 2.5 - 2.8 with a mortality rate that isn't even close to SARS.

Just my two (confederate) cents.

Regent (and maybe NCLH) now has a new policy that there are no self serve buffets, the food will be dished out to you by staff. It's more a reaction to cold & flu season. The Mariner has been plagued with a nasty cough that someone brought on in San Francisco and shared with the majority of guests.

They have to be diligent but I sure like serving myself. Got to "go along" though it probably does stop things spreading.

The self serve coffee machines are shut down. The pool grill is closed at night because they don't have enough staff to serve the salad bar and it has put a strain on all restaurants. Additional staff is supposed to be sent. Everyone entering La Veranda has to wash hands upon entering.

Yes, but at least there was a good reason then; now?

I have a feeling that Regent’s response relates directly to the 2 cruise ships (including a Princess ship) currently under quarantine for 14 days. The Princess ship docked in Hong Kong and the second ship sailed to multiple Chinese ports. Yikes-what a situation! You can read more on the link below:

China
Hong Kong
Taiwan
Macau

Medjet is kind of useless for evacuation from sea; you need to be in a hospital. Still don't know why those on Mariner (which recently left from San Francisco) have to live through restrictions because of something happening to others.

Affecting so much. Not really important but we may be without KLT cruise pins on the next few cruises. LOCKS and SUITE ordered but our pins come directly from China. They warned us we may not get them in time. Not sure if it is the production being affected or the shipping issue. Just have to wait and see what happens.

Marc, the restrictions were more for problems with the cold & flu season and the Mariner was affected in a bad way. Someone brought on a contagious cough that spread throughout the ship affecting about 80% of us and many had to go to the doctor and were given antibiotics & prednisone. It lasted for over 2 weeks. Our quarantine did help and it was lifted yesterday. We're across the equator and into summer and the warm weather is really welcome.

Anyone who has been in China in the last 30 days will still be denied boarding. All visitors & new embarks will have their temperature checked before boarding.

Some Philippine crew who were due for vacation from Auckland have been extended, it seems that they aren't bringing back anyone from there for now. Some who are due for vacation plan to debark in Australia and stay there with relatives until they can return. So far, no itinerary changes.

The Mariner was advised 1 hour before departure from Bora Bora that American Samoa is banning all cruise ship visits through the end of March due to Corona Virus concerns. We will also bypass Samoa (a different country) and sail for 4 days to Fiji where we hope to get a berth a day early. Right after the announcement was made and just before the anchor was raised a generator failure put the ship in the dark for a few minutes. No lights, toilets or internet. After a ½ hour delay for Engineering to check out the systems, we set sail.

Seems like a strange action by American Samoa and Samoa. The Mariner has been mostly at sea with few ports for something like two or three weeks. The odds that someone on the Mariner has the Corona virus would seem remote to not possible.

Jim,
Thanks for the update. I sure hope Australia doesn't take American Samoa's lead. We are really looking forward to joining you all on the Mariner in Sydney.

I think it's a knee jerk reaction from small island groups. Tonga has also stopped ship arrivals. Hopefully we'll be OK from now on, but who knows??? I'll keep you informed.

One of the passengers off the Westerdam arrived in Malaysia on a chartered flight from Sianoukville displayed symptoms and was tested; positive for COVID-19. Future charters have been cancelled with some of the Westerdam passengers still stuck in Cambodia.

This is going to really put a damper on any more Asia port visits. Voyager nearing Singapore; I wonder where she will go next.

The Mariner has another month before she's schedule to do a passenger turn over in Singapore. Nothing has been said about that port (yet.)

Just had an announcement after lunch. The World Cruise is bypassing Asia and going South around Australia to Fremantle and then 7 days at sea to Sri Lanka where we will rejoin our original itinerary. Regent is refunding 50% of our pro-rata cruise fare for March 1 through April 8, even though they didn't have to. The revised itinerary, for us, is fantastic.

Jim, nice deal. Hopefully will have plenty of supplies at Sydney to cover you until you get to Dubai; I guess Regent can just redirect supplies heading for Singapore to Freemantle so no difference.

Have fun!

Freemantle will replace Singapore as a turnover port. No problem getting provisions there and there is plenty of time to redirect them. We're happy campers, but the 7 sea days to Colombo will stress some newbies.

We too are excited with the new itinerary. We will get to add some new ports to our list (had been to all those on the previous itinerary). And we don't mind the sea days at all. I just hope they get us some shore excursion choices soon. I am sorry for the crew that were supposed to be going on vacation and will now likely have to be extended.

I don't see the new itinerary on the RSSC website yet. Any other stops besides Freemantle? We always wanted to see Perth so that doesn't sound so bad. Anything in Adelaide?

The change hasn't affected the crew much since Freemantle will replace Singapore as a turn around port and they can go home from there. There are some excitiing and interesting things to do in our new ports, even without an excursion. The cancelled ports are ones many of us have visited too often so we welcome the change. Terry Bishop has somewhere around 130 lectures in his computer so he'll keep us well entertained on the sea days to Colombo

Hi Pat and Jim....love the new itinerary, perfect time to visit those southern ports of Australia. We will be following you a week later! And Terry Bishop to entertain you for 7 sea days, what could be better.

The voyager has cancelled all her cruises for the next 6 weeks. Quite a hit on Regent's bottom line.

The Mariner has already had one change to the new itinerary. 2 days in Melbourne cancelled and replaced with Geelong and a sea day. All Aussie ports were unconfirmed when the new itinerary was listed and several cruise ships are vying for Aussie ports. At least we are close to get a shot at some of the smaller ports before others try. Several of the new ports couldn't take anything larger than Mariner so we're fortunate there. A World Cruiser event was scheduled for Singapore so now they're looking for a replacement. Several of us have opined that a day at Seppeltsfield Winery in the Barossa Valley near Adelaide would satisfy us all.

We're still over a month from Colombo so who knows where else we may visit???

Thanks Jim. Any word on shore excursions? Stacy and I just arrived in Sydney. Going to go up to Cairns for a few days for diving. Then back to Sydney to meet the ship. We really appreciate your updates and are hanging on every word. :)

Jim, in Geelong, fortunately or unfortunately depending on your point of view, you may encounter the former Mayor of Geelong. He was on one of our 2014 cruises and is a real piece of work. See: Mayor of Geelong

I must admit I've never heard of "The Mayor of Geelong" but after viewing your links, I sure hope you all don't think he is a "typical Aussie".
