With the increased fee for the Reserve card, I am thinking of downgrading my card; in fact, I am thinking of keeping a card just to not lose the 230,000 points I have. I have not been successful in using for hotels and haven't tried for air so really haven't seen any benefits to be paying $250 ($550 minus $300 when used once for travel). Global entry is not due for renewal for many years and I have added Delta Sky Clubs with another card so Priority Pass not that big a deal.

Can I just downgrade to Saphhire Preferred ($95) and keep my same number? Is there a free card I can downgrade to and keep same number? I have a number of hotels this year where that number has been used so would like to keep same number if possible.

thanks,

Marc

Marc, If you have a hotel group you use a lot, see if you can transfer all the points to them before cancelling your card. I moved all my AMEX Platinum to Marriott and I can use those points for hotels, air and other things.

We find it very valuable but we use it mostly for air, more options are available to us outside of our American miles program. Just recently we used Singapore Air with Chase points. Airlines keep changing but in the past we used Chase for Korean first class that was great but Korean Air is no longer part of the Chase plan.
