The opportunity was offered to me to sail on 62 passenger yacht Crystal Esprit for 7 nights at a very good rate on Thursday evening. They want me to try out this product. We had to decide on Friday morning and leave on Sunday. Talk about a whirlwind decision. My instinct has always been to learn as much as possible - I call it a thirst for knowledge. Ken found the round-trip flights on Friday for Sunday with miles we could not believe that just two days in advance of travel! The flights were $1000 per person to purchase great deal with miles.

The yacht is in the Caribbean round-trip from St. Maarten all beaches and sea - not my thing at all. Having just returned with a lot to do before the next two trips I hesitated at first. I cannot sit on a beach for hours and would be much happier getting things accomplished. So I piled up my work and plan on still completing the projects I had on my list for next week in air conditioned comfort on the yacht.

This might be a nice option at some point for a group. I like the 62 guests concept and the cabins are a very nice size 280 sq ft and look good. The yacht goes to Europe and other regions of the world. Certainly worth investigating. Sometimes it is nice to have a new and different experience. I will post pictures during the week and post how things are going.

The Voyager will be in St. Martin on Sunday -- wave to us! I'll look for your ship too. Have a great trip.

We arrive at the airport at 4.00 pm the Voyager leaves at 3.00 pm- we may see you from the air. We do not sail until 10.00 pm but you may see the yacht if it is the same harbor.

Well so far good. The cabin has more drawer space than you can use. Double sinks, king bed, couch and only 40 something on this sailing. Dinner was excellent small portions but I know how to order double portions. Ship is beautifully done, very classy decor understated.

Tomorrow an excursion that consists of a transfer by zodiac to a dry landing and then transfer to a resort where lunch and all facilities of the resort are included. Sounds good.

Tomorrow I will post pictures of the cabin. We have messed ours up but tomorrow we will get pictures of an empty cabin.

We saw the Voyager sailing out from the plane. Pretty tiny shot of the ship but definitely the Voyager. As requested we waved.

We saw the different categories today. S1 is the most expensive and S4 the least expensive.

Categories S1, S2, S3 all the bedroom area looks the same. King bed (I think California King) drawers, TV, and desk area, a full size couch, and coffee and refrigerator built in.

Category (S4) has a chair and smaller desk across from the bed. Good cabin for a single but still double sinks. Queen bed.

The configurations in the entrance way where the bathroom and closet areas are located there are slight differences in some cabins in the S1, S2 and S3. Maybe one less closet, different bathroom configuration, all due to structural aspects that could not be changed on the refurbishment. I have the numbers and pictures of those cabins.

The TV swings out so you can watch from the bed or couch

Showers vary in size but all definitely big enough. Most of them much larger than the Regent Explorer shower.

There is another restaurant for breakfast and lunch but people in it right now. Will post later.

Also a self service coffee bar with snacks all day.

Amazing number of options for dining for a small ship.

So the resort was great. HUGE property with a hotel and villas. The beach had tons of umbrellas and deck chairs. The pool was also at our disposal and really stunning. Included lunch anything you wanted on the menu plus two drinks. I indulged in a very fattening banana drink.

Food was okay, but the setting was magnificent. We ordered red snapper and I think our expectations were too high. The deserts were outstanding. Ken had a pecan slice he said was the best he has ever had. I had mango sorbet. So we ended our meal on a high note.

Our meal would have been close to $150 to $200. A wonderful idea for an excursion.

Sorry Marcie NO BATH TUBS. The bathrooms are large enough but “only showers” is the way it all seems to be going.

Tomorrow we signed up for the submersible - $600 per person. Thirty minutes under water at reef. Decided “we had to do it to let everyone know if it was worth it”. At least that was our excuse. So that will be an adventure.

Ngaire, I didn't see a balcony door in your cabin pics; do just some cabins have balconies? Is there a water sports facility like on PG or Diamond?

No balconies. Yes a water sports platform. This is where you also board the zodiacs. Stand up paddle boards, swimming right off the platform. Not sure about kayaks I will check.

We did the submersible. It was fun. The ships Captain piloted the submersible. Super nice from Sweden. We were down for 30 minutes to a depth of 100 feet.
We were in a round bubble cabin so you could see ahead on the side and below the craft. Only held two people and the driver.

We followed a reef and got very close. I am trying to send a few short videos to Julie for Facebook. Can’t get pictures to post internet really slow will post later.

It looks great. We had thought about doing one of their Croatia trips when they introduced the yacht a couple of years ago. I forgot all about it. So glad you are checking it out for us.

Yes I am thinking about this for Europe. The boat facilities, cabin, staff and food have exceeded my expectations in many ways. Lighting in cabin is amazing. Many options and all lights, bright, medium, soft, relaxed, off. Five settings. Lots of little things like that we have noticed.

Beautifully presented food. Last nights sweet potato soup.

A few shots from St. Bart’s. I love the short runway over a hill and then water at the end. A shot from each end.

Plus the lovely Crystal Esprit. A super comfortable little ship with great cabins, good food and great service. Anchoring in the areas of the islands where big ships do not go is wonderful. I recommend this experience without any reservations.

Yesterday we were in Nevis and had a great tour. We landed at the Four Seasons and again had use of some of the facilities. Beach chairs with umbrellas, Four Seasons service, two drinks per person and use of one of the pools. They took the Toys from the Marina deck to the beach. (I meant to mention the Jet Skis are available for 30 minutes no charge)We did a tour of the area. Great guide full of personality with a booming deep voice.

There was only four of us on the tour. We visited the Nevis Botanical Gardens. Owned by a family and the owner greeted us on arrival. We saw only two other people when we were there. Guided by a delightful man who I believe was the head gardener. Learned a lot about so many things we just loved it.

This bird was blown here by a hurricane a few years back and never left. The bird is now starting to spread giving Nevis a new bird species.

These are almonds are grown in these large seed pods. Never knew that before.

At the end the owner greeted us again and gave us a great refreshing drink made from flowers on one of the trees. Her family was originally from Nigeria but she was raised in New York. Her husband was an Asian art collector. They lived all over the world. The gardens are full of art work from their personal collection from around the world, particularly India. He passed away and she is running the gardens by herself. I think she said they had three other homes, New York, Amsterdam and I think India. Her children are at school in London. This is now all about the love of the gardens and she lives on the property. Very few people visit these gardens it is “off the beaten track” of the big cruise ships as they do not come to Nevis. They have a Thai Restaurant on a balcony overlooking Nevis. It is a stunning view and I bet the food is great as well. Very attractive restaurant. But I would recommend a visit here if you are ever in Nevis. Really a special place. There was a great gift shop here as well! www.botanicalgardennevis.com

[Linked Image]

Our tour ended at a bar/restaurant where we were served a drink and GIANT coconut shrimp. The Captain and staff were eating lunch there. The shrimp were outstanding.

They are letting us stay onboard until 2.30pm as our flight is not until 5.00 pm. They offered two tours to fill in time but both meant being out in heat and then flying hot and sticky. I far prefer sitting on the ship and then straight to the airport.

Overall I have really enjoyed this experience. Definitely want to do a trip on this ship in Europe. I think the European experience will be entirely different with all the small places not visited by larger ships. Really looking forward to coming back.
