We arrived in Bali this morning and were at anchor for the day because the Regent Seven Seas Navigator had the dock space. We took a wonderful tour of temples and the orchid garden, and I had the opportunity to taste Luwak coffee. The last tender was at 6pm and we were supposed to move to the dock by 8pm when the Regent ship sailed. Unfortunately, the Regent Seven Seas Navigator ran aground when it was leaving port and we remain at anchor. According to the Captain, there will be not update until 2am. It would not surprise me if we remain at anchor tomorrow since the channel might be suspect. As far as we know, the Regent ship is fine and just waiting for high tide. Had I not run aground in my own boat in Florida last fall just before low tide, I might be more concerned for the other ship. In any event, we will know more in the morning when we either wake up docked or still at anchor.l

Well that is indeed big news. The Navigator has the stronger hull so I am sure it is okay but quite an adventure for sure for those onboard.

Hulll should be no worry; I would be more concerned about the propellers (no pods on Navigator).

We're still here at 8:00am. The divers are checking the hull. We were sailing out last night at 9pm in the narrow channel, in darkness, when 2 fishing boats suddenly turned on their lights shocking both the captain & pilot. Instead of plowing through the 2 boats and killing the crews our captain turned slightly starboard and we hit the mud. Fortunately we were not too far from the dock and moving very slowly. There was a bump as if we had hit something floating in the water and then the engines were shut down. Just the bow was stuck in the mud and the rear props were clear. 2 tugs came to pull us free and around 3 am we got loose and returned to the dock so divers could inspect the hull. There was no apparent damage when they checked the interior of the hull. Until they know what the status is we are restricted to the ship as a sea day (stay at the dock and see the sea.) We were supposed to have a sea day on the way to Semarang, but it's likely we'll miss another port.

Another port? Have you already missed ports on this leg? Or, was it earlier?

We missed Exmouth in Western Australia on this leg, but it was a standard cancellation - wind & swells too high for safe tendering. Too bad because it was a beautiful sunny day with mild temperatures.
It's 11:20am and still no report on the inspection. Corporate and Regent's insurance required a physical inspection of the outer hull to check for cracks. Captain said no internal leakage so hopes are up. Sorry Wes, but we'll probably have to wait for incoming tide tonight to leave so you guys have to keep up the long tender rides. More later.

I was wrong in saying the divers were here. They were supposed to be on their way, but next report was later in the morning. Later we were told afternoon. Next it was 6:30, then 7:30 then 9:30pm. Now it's 10:35pm and "They are on the way from the airport.." The Harbor Master wanted us out because, after the Silver Seas was supposed to take our berth, the Europa was next. The Captain told them we'd love to leave, but if there was any problem it was on his head, so he said "Stay." Sailing out is dependent on tides so we may still be here in the morning, 4 days after arrival. Then itinerary is still being evaluated by Corporate in Miami. More tomorrow morning our time.

We must have passed the inspection during the night. No announcements so far. We pulled away from the dock just before 6am Wed, Mar 7 (5pm Tue Mar 6 in Florida) but as of yet have no idea of how Miami will revise our itinerary. I'll let you know later today when they announce it.

At 8:00 the captain announced that the divers showed up at 11:30pm, hit the water at 2:30am and finished at 4:30am. There were only some scratches in the paint on the hull so Lloyd's Register cleared us to leave. Miami said we're to go directly to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
Unfortunately we will skip Semarang, Indonesia where Borobudur Temple is located. That will tick off many guests since that was the highlight of this segment for many. I've seen it twice so I'm not as affected, but rumors are already floating that infrequent cruisers who don't understand about changes in itinerary are planning to demand refunds.
Our sail away around the island of Bali is scenic as we passed the Kubu volcano and a mass of small fishing boats with a sail & outrigger. It's a nice sunny day with the standard Indonesian haze preventing clear photos.

Well as Peggy knows for sure, after a while you just roll with the punches! Not many people who know that like you two, for sure! Thanks for the updates, Jim! I know Borobudur is a huge attraction! Heading in that direction on my next cruise on Ngaire’s BATIK Cruise on Voyager.

I'm disappointed for the people booked to go to Borobudur - certainly something worth a visit (and climb).

My only point is that accidents happen and the Captain did what he had to do and the alternative would have been far worse for everyone.

Another drama in the making on our way to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. The delayed departure from Bali and bypassing Semarang had us scheduled to arrive in Kota Kinabalu at 2pm instead of 9am and to depart at 10pm on Mar 10. In his noon announcement a few minutes ago the Captain said that we have been battling strong winds & currents, reducing our speed significantly and, if conditions continue, we won't arrive until 5pm. He'll update us tomorrow, but I suspect we could miss our 3rd port this segment. Not really sure what we could do for a few hours in the evening anyway. Maybe they could schedule a big banquet in town for all of us. More as it develops.

Thanks Jim for the updates.

As Tom and I have said so many times on cruises....it is what it is.

Agreee, Peggy, though it takes time to acquire that perspective. My mantra is no sense worrying about what you cannot control. Includes not only weather, but irritating things like getting sick. All you can’t do is hope sometimes!

Getting sick is happening on the World Cruise. It's a nagging cough that nearly everyone has had at least once and many are having a second round of it. Not pleasant.

Or alternatively, food poisoning like I (and others) had on the Norwegian Dawn last week...
