June and I were looking at this itinerary today and we got all excited again about this cruise. We think it is going to be outstanding. The ship looks ideal and the places the ship goes to are so unique. If any body is looking for a special cruise at this time of year they really should take a long look at the back to back or one of the components of the b 2 b.

I was able to book our plane tickets on SIN today. Depart AKL on May 8 arrive SIN May 8. Depart SIN for AMS on May 9 at 23:55 and arrive AMS on May 10. Will stay in AMS nights of May 10,11, 12,.

Is anybody else going to spend time in AMS and what hotels might you book. June and I are thinking of using some IHG points and booking the Kimpton in the downtown area.

You might say I am a bit possessed about getting the plane tickets booked for these trips. I think I booked the SIN to AMS flights about 8 minutes after they were available on the SIN web site.

Delta booking won't open for another few weeks. We are considering getting in a few days early but we may go to Brussels instead of Amsterdam. If Amsterdam, we might stay closer to Keukenhof or Den Haag. We will probably use Hilton or Starwood points for the stay.

I’m like Ralph. Mouse ready to pounce at the stroke of 10am!

We have booked Cathay Brisbane to Amsterdam with just a short stop over in HongKong. Very happy, these flights are just getting so difficult to book. We will arrive 4 days early, hoping to catch up with our Dutch friends.

Like Marc, we are waiting for Delta dates. We will likely only come in a day before. On last visits to Amsterdam we have stayed at the Pulitzer which is charming and well-located. Recently friends have raved about Banks Mansion. Undecided at the moment. (An increasingly more frequent occurrence)

We're going over 10 days early to spend a couple days in Dublin then we're touring around Ireland with Sue & Ray for a week. We are stuck flying to Dublin on BA (my very least favorite airline) only because it was the bird in the hand with availability using f.f. miles.

Just booked flights!

We are going to spend two nights in Brussels visiting old haunts and then two nights in Amsterdam with a visit to Keukenhof being the highlight. It will be so good getting back to Belgium and Netherlands.

Leslie & Brad - 517 - Amsterdam to Dublin

Looks like I never put us on the roll call.

Holding flights today to Amsterdam - AA is quite stingy with their award allocations. Most of the availability is on flights on BA that would require 2 stops for us, including a connection in Chicago which isn't my preference. I'm hoping something better opens up in the next 5 days, right now I'm holding AA flights (1 connection at DFW) at twice as many miles that what the BA flights run.

I just pulled the trigger on a Delta award flight from LAX to AMS. Once again, "you can't get there from Reno" proves true. A minimum of 40,000 pp more Delta miles would be required to start the itinerary from Reno, and we'd have to make 2 hops. The Points Guy puts 1.2 cents value on Delta miles. So $480/pp more than covers Southwest flights to LAX; and it's non-stop from there to Amsterdam. By then, Delta will have retrofitted the 777-200 with the new Delta One Suites! Ye-Ha!

Of course, SFO is much closer to us than LAX, but for this trip using Delta miles, SFO is more expensive and with a hop.

We arrive on Thursday. Never been to Amsterdam. And also thinking about checking out Brussels. Oh Marc??? Maybe if you and Arlene are going to be there, maybe we can hook up? Having missed the opportunity to visit while you were living there, maybe this will make up for it!

Kim, we are flying out the 8th to Brussels also arriving on Thursday; two nights in Brussels then train to Amsterdam then two nights in Amsterdam. Full day in Amsterdam will be used to go to Keukenhof to see the flowers.

If you have never been to Amsterdam, I would use your time to see Amsterdam. Lots of great museums, the canals, Anne Frank House, and, of course, Keukenhof. If you want to go a little farther out you can go to Den Haag, Delft, or maybe Gouda; I think adding in Brussels when you are there only four days would be a waste of the travel time.

Marc, Very glad to have your input! Alice and I will see you in Amsterdam, then. Thank you for the list of to do's in Amsterdam. I haven't done any research and only had in mind the Van Gogh museum, and had forgotten about the flowers! whoot!

I second Marc’s advice to stick to Amsterdam and include Anne Frank house and Van Gogh museum. I would add the Rijks museum and Zaanse Shans (sp) windmills etc to the list of must sees in Amsterdam.
I just grabbed 2 one way reward tix for our out bound journey but unfortunately we will not arrive until the morning of the 13th. Fingers crossed for no problems. Never done this before (arrive day Of sailing) but 70k miles vs. 175k miles made this a bit of a no- brainer. It’s a direct flight and is scheduled to arrive at 8 am so should be ok. I’ll see what the return looks like in a couple of weeks

We arrive in Amsterdam on the 10th. I booked the Banks Mansion. We’ve not been to Amsterdam before either.

After the cruise we are looking into flying to Manchester from Dublin and spending a week hiking/sightseeing in the Lake District.

Amsterdam is a really fun place IMO. We have been 3x. Lots to see and do. The coffee houses/cafes are interesting if you are into that sort of thing. One of our nephews kept disappearing to them 😀. Jerry spent an extended amount of time there after he was discharged from the Army so we have been all, over the City retracing his youth. The museums, the canal boats, the Flower market...... You will have a blast!

Got our airline tickets for the outbound flight today to join in Dublin using AA miles. The taxes were ouch because of the BA segment. I will keep my eyes peeled for the option to change though.

We got our flight on a non-stop from LAX to Dublin (drumroll .....) on Ethiopian Airlines using United ff miles. Tom said "you did what ???"
I sure wish we were on AA. Who'da guess that this #%@*# airline flies non-stop from LAX to Dublin. Tom felt a lot better when I showed him the photo of a flight attendant.

Funny - on Thursday I met an agent at a Signatures meeting who specialized in Ethiopian Airlines. I thought that was interesting!! Now Marcie has booked it. She said it was a very good airline, so who knows it may turn out to be great. These days I think any foreign airline is better than our airlines!!

Thanks Ken, that's encouraging to hear. I hope you're right. At least the price was right...70,000 miles Biz Class and $5.70 per person in taxes.

Marcie and Karen, you have me laughing so hard. I don't know what in the world is on that plate, but you might want to bring a sandwich! The flight attendant is quite the knockout though....and here I thought the airlines had lowered their standards!

Kathy, I think that plate is one of those mind-teasers : I see a wash cloth and some seaweed. 🤪
With regard to the flight attendant, I think the chin feather is quite fetching and I look forward to that particular trend catching on here in So Cal.
Good luck, Marcie. Tell Tom it’s all part of the adventure!

Definitely a to- go- Burger King at LAX is in order. FA looks a bit like me if I have 1 too many Sambucas sans her feather and fancy jewelry, just all part of the adventure in life.

How funny!! I've just come to catch-up on my LCT reading and saw these posts about Ethiopian Airlines! Just two days ago I found the non-stop from Dublin to LAX on Ethiopian that I was considering booking! I haven't booked anything yet since there are other options --- viz., Aer Lingus non-stop from Dublin to Seattle. But, Marcie, those posts are hysterical!

I took Alice to an Ethiopian restaurant in Vegas several years ago. The "wash cloth" is probably the flatbread made of teff. You tear off pieces of it to use to pick up small amounts of food. Just my guess.

I bet they have a western menu. All those airlines have the national food and a western menu as well. I have not looked up how they are rated. But i will never forget BOTSWANA airlines. Did not expect much but we got a really yummy hot sandwich on a 40 minute flight. I was impressed.

I just looked at the reviews. NOT BAD at all better than I would have anticipated. Depending on the plane the seats vary - same with all airlines of course. But the foods look fine. Definitely a western menu.

Delta just raised transatlantic mileage requirements; now 82K on Delta or 75K on partner for business (versus 70K); coach is 35K or 32.5K (versus 30K). Since the return is a daytime flight, may have to look at coach. waah

Working on return air after we spend time in the Lake District. One possible routing is on Qatar; Manchester - Doha - Dallas - Albuquerque 😱

Looks like we’re going to have to book an AA anytime award. Even though it’s a day flight back, coach would not be good given that we have to make 2 stops.
