POP2IT is the name. Penguins on Parade 2 Icy Terrain.
The first Antarctica trips was called POP - so this is POP2 - similar to Roar and Roar 2 and Nile and Nile 2 with the added IT - Icy Terrain. Will seem a strange name to anyone without the history behind it but it is really quite clever.

Thanks all! Looks like a great cruise with lots of familiar cruisers! But we need to hear from newcomers as well, this is one fantastic experience, having done it before when Regent chartered a small expedition ship years ago. Sorry for all the mistakes, I’ve been very distracted lately! And thanks, Ngaire for the explanation for Marc’s naming.

Some of you met Chris and Lynette from New Zealand on Frolic, friends of June and Ralph. They are coming and bringing three other New Zealand couples. I have met one of the couples already on the Silver Muse and really liked them. They all seem to be a very nice group of people but as newcomers not familiar with LCT. So we will have a really nice New Zealand contingent onboard of eight people!
We have 64 people deposited that is a lot for a ship that only holds 200 people.

Don’t know why all the subject headings other than mine didn’t pick up the changes I made. Maybe KAren can fix. I’m not at liberty to add names until they post, so I’ll just make a generic entry for a few Ngaire mentioned.

Testing... Looks like it's fixed. The only thing I can think that happened was O had 2019 on her original post and someone replied to it before she had a chance to change it?

Sue and Jack-429. I do notice that Susan and its variants (Sue, Suzanne) seem to be the modal name on this itinerary-I count at least five!

Ngaire, what happens if they get to 200 pax based on vista and veranda suites and then someone wants to book royal or silver suite? Will they just boot those in lower suites off (handsomely rewarded of course) so they can sail with expensive suites full?
BTW, prices have jumped from 16,300 to 18,700 for vista.

I have no idea how that is handled. They may not sell the lower suites once they reach a quota that would allow the more expensive suites to be sold. Just guessing but that would make sense. I went to book a mid-ship veranda today and it had gone up $24,500 for the suite. That was not on web when I got that pricing and I still do not see it on the web. But you must have seen that increase somewhere.
These are huge increases when it has only been released for about two weeks. It must be getting very close to full.
Welcome home? Are you back now.

I’m eager to hear from Marc and Arlene as well. Can’t wait tilI hear about Harbin.
Another question for Ngaire. If there are 200 of us aboard, and 100 allowed ashore at one time, how does it work? How many landings/excursions per day per person? Last time, for me on ICE, we were only 100, so all had two landings per day.

There are 144 guests on the Explorer and they were split into four groups of 36 per group.
There are 200 guests on the Cloud and they will also be split into four groups of 50 guests per group.
So it will work exactly the same as the Explorer just 14 people more per group . Two landings per day. Even the timing should be about the same just means two more zodiacs to load per group no biggie.
It is when you go over 200 there becomes an issue.

Thanks for posting that. I agree with this reviewer. The bathroom are the brown marble color and the rest of the ship is light and bright. I thought the same thing they should have changed that marble out. BUT a small complaint when the rest of the ship is so great.

JUST an FYI
The Silver Cloud cruises that Ken and I are escorting in 2019 (Celtic UK/Wales/Ireland/Scotland May 2019) and 2020 (POP2IT South Georgia and Antarctica - Jan 2020) have gone up in price. I wanted to let you know that KLT still has the original pricing until February 28th as we have a contract with Silversea. If any of you were interested but decided to wait and think about it later, do go ahead and book it. You can always cancel for a $200 penalty at 120 days before departure. But after February 28 that price is going to increase and probably continue to go up.
• Silver Cloud UK about Vista $400 and Veranda $500 per person or $1000 per couple • Silver Cloud South Georgia/Antarctica Veranda $3000 per person or $6000 a couple and Midship Veranda $3200 per person or $6400 per couple.
Bigger savings on bigger suites of course.

Just booked another New Zealand couple and they got the last veranda cabin on the ship. All the Vistas, Veranda and Mid-Ship Veranda are wait list only. The only cabins left now are Silver Suites. Congratulations to all of you who booked this cruise, remarkable it is sold out two years in advance and you all got the original fares!
Going to be a great voyage.

Going to be a great voyage. Since there are only 12 Silver Suites on the ship; assuming that ALL 12 are available, there would have to be 30 SOLO suites in order to keep to 200 maximum. Appears Silversea is betting a number of folks cancelling. This is going to be a fun cruise!!! Marc

June and I attended a dinner last night at Sails, a fantastic restaurant with a terrific view of the Auckland harbor bridge hosted by our friends, some of you have met, Chris and Lynette Howell. Purpose of the dinner was to introduce June and I to two couples that are long time friends of theirs who are booked on POP2IT. What great people. The KIWI group is going to be a great addition to the entire group. They are a fun loving bunch. June and I are so much looking forward to this adventure. Going to be hard to wait until 2020.
Thank you Ngaire for agreeing to take this group on yet another of your Antarctica adventures.

We’re dropping out too, so please remove us from the roll call.
We decided to book the circumnavigating Iceland cruise on the Cloud in August, 2019. Can’t do them all.
We loved our trip to The Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica in 2007 - despite the German battles in the boot room... I’m sure the experience on the Cloud will be fabulous and we will be following your experiences closely.

I'm out too. Early January is bad at the office, but I also found a great itinerary on Ponant Seychelles to Madagascar that visits the Comoros Islands in March. No single supplement either. I'm sure you will all have a wonderful time. Say hi to the Adelie penguins for me!

Airline tickets are obtained. Very few miles used for the outbound, but lots of miles used to come home as we need to be back home on the 20th. At any rate, it is set up and I am happy.

Same scenario with us Rachel. We are spending a night in Miami on the way down (annual visit to Regent completed so that worked out fine) and great miles. Coming back expensive but the nonstop and the other routes were the same points. So at least we got the nonstop home. YES we are happy to have our done as well. Those doing SIlversea air it wont open for a while yet.

We too are having to spend a night in Miami on the way down--but worth it to get such a good deal with the miles.

Hi, Kim, Santiago is a pretty nice city as far as large cities in South America go, but not that much as far as specific sights. However, there is very nice wine country nearby. We have been there twice and did wine tours both times which were great.

Thanks, Rachel. I guess there's no need to be in a hurry to get there. But, not a bad idea to get there in time to relax and enjoy some time in the city and maybe even venture to wine country.

Best thing about Santiago is the king crab. Not much else going on there IMO. We did not make it to wine country but that sounds like the way to go. Wish we were joining you! ——————- Helen

Just FYI POP2IT was a brilliant name that I thought was great. However, so many new people who have no idea what it means so I contacted Marc who came up with POP2it and he suggest this name instead. Sure would not want Marc to lose his virtual teapot!!
I think this is such a great name, seeing both Antarctica and Africa changes ones perspective. Nature is amazing.
ADELIE - Antarctic Destination Enhances Life In Everyone
So that is the new name and I will Karen to change it accordingly.

Is there a boot room on the Cloud? I didn't see it in June yet I can't imagine having to clean our boots in our cabin.

Yes, there is a boot room. We didn’t see it on our Cloud trip in May (or yours) since there weren’t any wet landings.
We are going on the circumnavigating Iceland trip on August 5th. We are taking our boots, although it’s not clear if there will be any wet landings. Will report in, as I’m sure will Rachel. Especially interested in the boot room and status of boots to borrow.

I also found out there are just 60 pair of boots on the Silver Cloud. So you really do need to rent or purchase boots when going to Antarctica or the Arctic. I loved that boot room so much more spacious and the racks are nicer too. Just well designed as well for traffic flow - one door in and one door out.

I agree so anxious to be on the Silver Cloud for Antarctica and see just how that boot room works. It seems SO large after the Explorer and just 75 more people. It is probably 3 to 4 times bigger than the Explorer boot room. Also what is nice is the larger waiting area to board the zodiacs. Definitely benefits (including bathtubs) to the Cloud. However, I am still looking forward to being on the Silver Explorer, Dunedin to Dunedin. An area I have always wanted to explore. Had so many good trips on the Explorer it does have a place in my heart.

I’m sorry to say I’ve had to remove myself from the Roll Call due to some continuing mobility problems just not suited to being on the passage to get there, and getting on and off Zodiacs. It’s a real disappointment as a I loved my ICE cruise so much years ago when Radisson chartered the Explorer Expedition ship. Fully intend to see some of you on Locks next March!
Have fun everyone, it’s an amazing trip!

As a few of you know June and I are in the process of cancelling this cruise also. Was a difficult decision as we both wanted to go but for a number of issues just not in the cards for us. Our friends in New Zealand the Howells are still booked along with a few other Kiwi's so I know you all will have a grand time.

Tom & I (and Sue & Ray) are flying from LAX to Santiago for 1 extra night just to relax and have a good night sleep since the charter leaves at an ungodly early hour on Jan 4. We leave afternoon New Years day and arrive on January 2nd morning. I thought SS's add on for 1 extra night was very reasonably priced and includes the transfer to the hotel.
Anyone else arriving early ?

We are leaving SFO Dec 30 and (hopefully) arriving Santiago the morning of the 31st. We've got multiple stops as we're using mileage, so plenty of chances for mis-connections. We will be staying 3 nights at the Regal Pacific Hotel before we transfer to the Mandarin Oriental for one night.
I will be looking into some winery trips if anyone else (beside Cindy and David) is interested. We may do a food tour as well as we arrived a day late our last trip to Santiago and missed ours.
As I own no cold weather gear (jacket ordered and boots rented) what exactly does one wear under the waterproof pants?? Jeans, long underwear, what??? Are others renting or bringing ski/trekking poles? Is there a master list anywhere of items we MUST have or at least that are highly recommended?

Suzanne, does this mean you're not staying the last night at hotel where SS is putting everyone? I've heard that the bus leaves very early in the morning from the hotel to airport for the charter flight to Ushuaia. Are you planning to meet up at the Santiago airport the morning of January 4th ?

Thanks for posting this Suzanne. I arrive Jan 2 so the first tour wouldn't work (too bad because it looks like a great tour) I am interested in the Jan. 3 walking tour. I didn't see a hotel pickup so I wondered how you would get to meeting point - by cab?

Hi Susan! You can get to the meeting point by metro (La Moneda station), cab or Uber! If you're staying at the Mandarin Oriental you might try coordinating transportation with Cindy and David who are there from January 1.

Wow - what a story that was unbelievable. I am glad although traveling without your carefully planned luggage you had an enjoyable trip. Super weather it seems and the penguins are so amazing. Everyone in the same situation would have helped and fortunately Ushuaia has good stores to purchase the items you needed.
We have lost my luggage so many times that we deal with it quite well. Once in the Arctic our luggage was lost and similar situation where you needed specialized clothing. I bought enough in Longyearbyen that I did not want my luggage to show up. But there it was just as we were pulling up the gangplank our luggage made the ship.
Our trip is now so very close I am starting to gather my "stuff" in participation of getting my luggage!

What an experience you had....thankfully it all worked out for you and you ending up having a wonderful experience.
Years ago I had a terrible experience flying to meet my husband who was working in Bangkok at the time. I was booked in a business class seat from LAX but the airlines screwed up. I ended up in a cheap middle economy seat in the next to the last row of the entire plane next to the rear lavatory. I was seated between 2 men who spoke no English and smelled absolutely disgusting ,
The airline announced 20 minutes after take off that mistakenly, it hadn't loaded 120 meals so I had NOTHING to eat the entire flight.
The lavatory overflowed 2 hours into the flight and was yellow-taped off right at my row. The smell was overpowering and I was a prisoner in my middle seat. Upon arrival (what seemed like a month) we had to use a plank laid in the isle to deplane. I was so excited to see Tom at the gate but it only got worse. Arriving at baggage claim, my bag hadn't made it. Another hour to file a missing bag claim. I had nothing to wear but the smelly clothes I had flown in. My luggage arrived 2 days later.
IT WAS THE TRIP FROM HELL !

I just looked at www.windy.com the best website for weather that Sheila found. Right now not so good - but looks like a nice window when we leave Ushuaia and sail to South Georgia. Only out as far as January 6 right now but looking at what is moving over towards that area the wave conditions between Ushuaia and South Georgia look promising at this time. Once you get to Antarctica the weather is always pretty nice but South Georgia is the highlight so good conditions there make it very special.
