We arrived here yesterday and staying in a cozy airbnb apartment near the Marina. We have a nice balcony where we can sit out and watch the world go by.
Today we walked for miles into Old Town and all around the Promenade where Wednesday's terrible tragedy occurred. For several blocks there is a different memorial overflowing with flowers, candles, stuffed animals, French flags, photos of loved ones etc. It is very very moving and solemn as you stop and say a prayer. There is TONS of security and unlike what's going on in the USA, there are cheers and waving as the police walk and drive by. Many of the businesses are still closed and events cancelled but all the hotels, restaurants seem to be open and the Nice people are staying strong and moving forward. There are also lots and lots of TV cameras and reporters, saw one today from ABC and wished we would have run into Tom Giusto on assignment.
The city is so gorgeous, the weather couldn't be any prettier and the beaches are very popular. I really love it here. We'll be heading down to Monte Carlo Wednesday morning. Tonight we're hooking up with Sue & Ray for dinner (they're at a local hotel where you walk out the door smack at one of the many memorials set up) .
Here are a some photos I've taken yesterday and today.
