I love the pin! Great work, Ngaire. This cruise, which we booked so long ago, is beginning to feel real now. We fly in on embarkation day, arriving around 11:00, with Regent air. (We usually don't use Regent air, but it made sense for us this time.) Straight to the ship, relax, sail away, and then dinner that first evening at Prime 7 for our 38th anniversary. I'm so eager to get onboard!

Hi Priscilla:
Wonder if you are coming in on the same flight as Ngaire and Ken?
Jan's birthday is Thursday the 7th.
Decided to fly in on Wednesday and play tourist on Thursday since all of our dealings with Miami have only been the airport. Tim & Penny arrive around 4:30 and we will have dinner together somewhere around the Embassy Suites (airport) we are staying at. Then Friday work are way to the ship around noon Friday.

Jim, celebrations all around! Let's celebrate birthdays and anniversaries again onboard.

Maybe we will be on the same flight with Ngaire and Ken. It leaves Dallas at 7:10 a.m. Early early for this morning sloth, but we'll be glad once we are there.

PALM travel docs disappointment...received ours today, nice pouch with about 6 pieces of paper and two luggage tags. No booklet, excursion descriptions, or anything of the type that we are used to receiving on "doc dance" day. Maybe something was left out?

That's all we got on our January cruise. Don't think they are printing the excursion booklets anymore. There was a print out with a brief description of the tours in our room with the sign up sheets. Of course, we had already printed out the tour descriptions that were emailed to us.

I agree, "docs" are definitely not what they used to be!

Hey, Jim!
I am happy to chime in that Penny and I are tremendously excited about this trip! As you know, we will be arriving early afternoon on the 7th, from Washington DC, and planning to meet up with you and Jan at the hotel. Our departure date from home is coming up scarily fast!

Oh Peggy. Jan and I thought real hard about doing the 25th part before the April 8th but since we had already bought our airline tickets and difficult to change out of Billings we gave up.
Looks like a real good cruise to me.

Sheila, Peggy, Ken, Jerry; we are so looking forward to cruising with you. Get the ship in tip top shape. We have a bit of SBC so Jerry don't drink all the blue.

See everyone soon!!!!

Marc

PS Extending for the two weeks before was sure enticing except Arlene will be in Paris. ;)

Clay was talking about that on Thursday we are expecting that any day now. There is space showing in the PH suites so hopefully some of our group can get an upsell to those great Mariner PH suites.

Given that Regent has now pulled PH and Horizon Suites from available inventory to "plan your cruise" online, I guess they are getting ready. wave

Prisoner's Dilemma

While considering the upcoming upsell on PALM, I realized that game theory can come into play on about anything. There is still a lot of inventory for PH and Horizon as well as Cat F, E, and D; however,, they have been selling Cat H, G, and C (Penthouse) guarantees. Who knows, they may have sold 350 cabins (albeit most at Cat H and Cat G prices). For an example, let's imagine that there are 50 PH or Horizon cabins left and that Regent entices 50 guests to pay $2,000 for those cabins; i.e., another $100K in revenue.

Now, look at the possibility that we ALL refuse to pay for an upgrade. Since Regent has sold 350 cabins, they need to fill every cabin. In the end, 50 lucky guests will be upgraded at no cost.

If there are 200 guests for which the offer is made, one out of four would pay zero and the others would get their original cabin. So, what's the better deal, pay $2000 for guaranteed upgrade of pay zero for 25% chance of an upgrade.

It is sort of meaningless as there will always be those that pay, just as in the original prisoner's dilemma problem.

Idle thoughts for today.

Marc

Marcie, move us to 976. This is our 8th cruise on Mariner; we have paid for H or H guarantee on seven of those eight, and we still haven't sailed in an H cabin. Someday, I would like to actually be on Deck 7.

See everyone soon!

Olivia, we wish you were on the Mariner now too. Pack your bags and fly down to Miami and join us! Everything has been wonderful so far. We did miss the port of Santa Marta, but nobody really cared (not like missing Saigon in January :-)). The weather is a little cooler than we'd like and it's kind of windy, but we're persevering. Dinner in Prime 7 last night was great--just like every other meal. Up tomorrow: Granada -- after that we have to speak French for a couple days (Guadalupe and Martinique). Life is good.

The muster drill was at 5:00 pm--it was windy so we didn't have to go out to the lifeboats smiles . We got our luggage right around 3:00, so we were all unpacked and ready to go. On another topic, we had to anchor in Granada today because another ship had our berth due to mechanical problems -- so we stayed on the ship. Not sure what ship had mech. problems.

We are staying 7 April at Element Miami International Airport - anyone else staying there with us? If so, do you want to split a taxi to the port?
