Stan Hywet Hall, Akron, OH

Once the home of Frank Seiberling, co-founder of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, the Stan Hywet Hall is a 65-room Tudor-Revival country estate and public gardens located in Akron, OH. (You'll see the outside only as photos are not allowed inside.)

Penny and I have made numerous visits to this beautiful estate and if you'd like to see what we saw, here's your chance.

Merry Christmas & a Happy, Healthy, New Year.

Ray & Penny

Loved it, Ray!! How does it compare to Biltmore House in Asheville, NC where y'all went a few yrs ago? Looks even more elaborate!

Wishing you and Penny a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Where are you off to next?

Hi Another Kathy:

Good question......hmmmm. Both estates are overpowering but would have to say that Stan Hywet Hall has a more "homey" atmosphere but the Biltmore grounds are like a dreamland.

As far as 2014 travel is concerned, it will be all domestic and it will start off in Miles City, Montana with Jim & Jan Bastian of L.C.T. for The Bucking Horse Sale as well as visiting Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Grand Teton's, and Durango, Colorado and some points in between. After that, hope to do Louisiana/Tennessee and perhaps Atlanta as a former boss of mine lives there and then of course there is Col. Wes & Ida. I'd sure like to try some of Ida's "fixins"

We had a wonderful Christmas and hope you did too. Have a happy, healthy, wealthy New Year!

Cheers! Ray & Penny
p.s.: Glad you liked the video!

Don't know about Hywet but living in Asheville and having a daughter who works for Biltmore, I can say if you have never seen it come. No matter what time of year it is a treat. Christmas is unbelievable, and the flowers in spring and summer make you want to go home and dig up your own gardens. The special thing about Biltmore is that it is still privately owned by the Cecil's ,George Vanderbilts grandson. They have kept it shining as a new penny and are the ultimate in preservation. Much to do besides just the house with a lovely hotel and fishing, Range Rover school, hiking, good food, etc. Asheville itself is a fun place to be and a fine example of what a down and out downtown can become with the right people investing in it. Really a foodie town.
